I haven't read the articles, but charter schools are just another way that capitalists have undermined excellent government services through deregulation. There have always been elitist schools for the rich. Taking that model and turning it into a for-profit business, like mail services, telephone services, and other formerly government services becoming businesses, the idea always was to improve the quality of education because the elitist, private schools always produced better educated (or at least better connected, graduates).
As I constantly proved every time we tried to outsource services at our university, it always costs more to privatize because of the resulting profit. Mismanagement and greed, when combined with profit, often lead to miss placement of funds and it's the students that suffer from funds siphoned off from their education.
The result of charter schools over the past decade has accelerated the resegregation of our public schools to the point where we are returning to the 1950s apartheid in our schools today. We are literally erasing the long fought battle for civil rights. And, it's mostly about greed and the rich getting richer at our children's expense.
