Memories from my childhood days. I grew up in St Jonhsbury, VT.
When I was a child I always looked forward to the arrival of winter. As the first snow flakes began to fall in intricate white designs, my heart would flutter and rejoice in anticipation of days to come.
Powdery white snow settled over valleys and mountains, bringing winter's majestic, pure beauty to everyone.
Gray smoke lazily drifted into to soft blue skies from chimneys of homes. Crystal icicles hung from roofs as velvety whiteness covered the land.
I'd put on my snowsuit, boots, mittens, knit hat and runout side to play in its welcoming presence.
I loved making snow forts in which we could go inside and play. Sledding, sliding down the hill in cardboard boxes was always fun to do. I learned to skate and snow shoe. I even tried to ski, but did not do well.
Making snow angels and snowmen was lots of fun. The snow had to be just the right texture to have the snow stick together to make a large snow man. Many times we'd use coal for his eyes and nose. He'd have a twig mouth with an old hat on his head. Winter also meant the coming of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Those childhood days passed many years ago, but linger in my heart. The feelings and memories remain.
I ENJOYED THIS STORY, MY FRIEND! IT IS INDEED A RICH BLESSING WHEN WE RECALL THOSE MEMORIES THAT BRING WARM GOOD FEELINGS. THE SNOW IN THIS SHARING REMINDED ME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SHOWFALL I'VE EVERY EXPERIENCED. IT WAS IN WASHINGTON, DC IN 2009, DURING THE TIME I WAS HOMELESS. A SNOW STORM HIT AND LEFT BEHIND THE MOST AWESOME SCENE I'D EVER BEHELD. LITERALLY 'EVERYTHING' WAS COVERED WITH THE RICH, WHITE SPARKLE OF 'NEW SNOW'...LIKE A FAIRY TALE. THOUGH WE HAD TO GO OUT, THE SHELTER RESIDENTS...WERE HESITANT ABOUT DISTURBING IT! BUT THEN YOU UNDERSTAND AS YOU WERE BLESSED TO EXPERIENCE A 'WONDERLAND' EVERY YEAR. LOVED THE IMAGERY HERE...THANKS FOR SHARING AND 'STIRRING UP' A GOOD MEMORY. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS
A great memory that parallels mine. Those were wonderful carefree days that ended with rosy cheeks, cold hands and colder feet. Welcoming the heat of the coal-fired furnace or potbelly stove to warm fresh popped popcorn and/or hot chocolate with marshmallows on top.
After a long awaited weekend visitation caused by false allegations of sexual abuse, Glen got to see his children for the first time in over two months. He promised them that they would never be apart again and then they disappeared.
