Pickel Meadow is the location of the cold weather and mountain warfare training center for the U.S. Marine Corps. Nearly 170 years ago, Col. John C. Fremont lost a cannon while fighting his way across the Sierras in a snowstorm. This is the story of a Marine who thought that he found the lost cannon.
