People sometimes wonder why I growl at them. What they don’t know is that I was a feral child. When I was a baby I crawled away from my parents when they were on a camping trip and ended up in a bear den. My parents never found me. Mother bear raised me with her two cubs. This became my family.
Without my bear mother I would not have survived. She fed me and taught me survival skills. I learned which berries, mushrooms and flowers to eat and how to catch salmon in a rushing stream. We sniffed for food. I rolled and tumbled and played with my brother and sister cubs. We climbed trees. We were family.
So now that I am no longer with my bear family, I can teach humans how to survive in the rainforest of British Columbia. I am now a guide and some of my clients think I’m rather weird as I lead them through the rain forest. That’s o.k. I know things they will never know or understand.
