A two minute story to encourage small children to be good for bed.
Little Cheska was a naughty girl at bedtime. Every night her mum tucked her in and read a bedtime story, Cheska closed her eyes and looked asleep but as soon as she was alone she would jump out of bed, then start calling out that she couldn’t sleep or wanted a drink. Poor Cheska’s mum was so tired of the games one night she went out into the garden and wished upon a star up high. “Dear little star please do a favour for me, show my Cheska how wonderful bedtime can be!”
The next morning Cheska flew out of bed and ran to her mum. “I had a wonderful dream last night but it felt so real,” she said, “I dreamt my mattress was magic and flew me to a far away place where there was a beach and ice-cream and lots and lots of wonderful things to play with and you were there. We both played so happily in Dreamland. I know it was Dreamland because there was a big sign saying ‘Welcome to Dreamland’. Can I go again, please?”
“Yes, but remember only children who are good for bed get to go to Dreamland.” Mum said.
“I’ll always be good for bed,” Cheska replied and from that day onwards she was.
After her bedtime story her mum kissed her on the forehead, “Goodnight and sweet dreams,” she said as she left the room.
“Meet you in Dreamland,” Cheska called, then snuggled down and went straight to sleep.
