Have you ever talked of something out of the blue during the day and then that same night when you go to sleep you dream of the things that was related to what you have said during the day? That has just happened to me. Scroll down this page to read about my dream...
Several days ago I was talking about my husband - I talked about how much I miss him, and how I still have his new suit and Ham radios and how I would not give them away to just anyone.
That same night I went to bed and I dreamed of my dear husband. In my dream, my dear hubby was very much alive. He was up in a highrise building that was similar to my work's building. I had to ride an elevator to go up there to look for him. I pressed the button, the elevator door opened, revealing a peculiar partitioned floor - the first three quarters nearest the threshold were made of concrete, and remaining quarter toward the rear made of regular black parquet frequently found in most elevators. A handrail was bolted to the back of the elevator's wall. I proceeded to press the button to the 10th floor (I always talked about the 10th floor of a building in my stories because the 10th floor of my work building had been where I worked for many years), but when the elevator began to ascend, the floor split in two, leaving me stranded on the concrete! The remaining part of the elevator car containing the parquet floor was rising, leaving me behind! I lunged toward it, grasping the handrail as the elevator quickly made its way up. only for my hand to slip, throwing me backward, hurtling down to the concrete floor. I had been thrown out of the elevator!
I saw the food court that was downstairs of my building, so I thought perhaps I would just go and have a coffee first before I go back up to my office where my husband might be searching for me. I walked around the food court but found all of the restaurants to be in the process of closing because it was by now well into the evening. I looked outside through the glass windows of the building and saw it was night time so I could not get my coffee either.
I went back to the elevator, and this time I saw my brother trying to get in too. The elevator door opened, and he got in, but before I could say anything to him, he too was ejected from the elevator, just as I had been.
At this moment I heard my Mom calling me by my Chinese name. I rushed over to the open door to see her. She was accompanied by my sister who had passed away three years ago due to cancer. As the elevator ascended, I could only see them as they stood on that one-quarter space of the elevator as they ascend. I barely caught sight of the back hemlines of their colorful dresses. Then the elevator door closed and I could not see them anymore. I wondered if my hubby was still waiting for me up on the 10th floor when it suddenly occurred to me that because it was the evening, only building staff and security could access the elevators with an Identification keycard. Without the programmed card, the elevators would not budge. My thoughts turned to the night guard Peter. I wondered where he could be.
I had no means to go up the building without having my ID card programmed to use after office hours. It was even weirder when I really think about it that when I pressed the button earlier part of the elevator would go up. I don't think I would have an explanation for this, except this is a dream and anything can happen in a dream.
Although my hubby didn't say anything to me, I knew he had been watching me. Even watching what I post in Facebook, and letting me know he is still here for me. My Mom and my Sister were also watching me and knew that I needed some comforting and they too, are letting me know they are here for me as well.
It is interesting your loved ones are high up where you cannot see them but you know they are there. It really made me think of heaven and Earth and that leap you make when a person dies. I am glad you found comfort in the dream and hope you see your family again someday.
Your dear husband and your mom and sister love you, but they don't want you to go with them yet. The fact that you could not reach your husband and he could not be found in your dream means that it's not the time for you to go to him yet.
I am no dream interpreter. But, your thoughts during the day were probably being installed in the right places in your long-term memory. While this happens some strange dreams can occur. I have often had frustrating, unresolvable dreams like yours where you couldn't get on the elevator even though it seemed like it would be easy to take the elevator to your mother, sister and hubby, who you long to see again.
Last night I watched Alaska: The Last Frontier. Earlier I had watched Jewel, who grew up on the Kirchner homestead, participate in Undercover Boss, recruiting new country singers for her band in Nashville. When I went to bed, I dreamed a whole episode where each of the Kirchner family sat on a chair and confessed about what they did on the show and most importantly talked about their losses and how they recovered. It was so real, I wonder if some of what they were revealing is actually true. Such are our dreams. Mine create great short stories like the one I'm posting today, Until Death Do Us Part.
This book has been eight years in the making. It is mostly a jumble of thoughts written down in old spiral notebooks and hidden in the bottom drawer underneath various manuals for software packages and hardware long since turned obsolete.
