When It All Comes Crashing Down

The bouncing grounder hit by Cincinnati Knights pitcher Earl Naye was scooped up by 2nd baseman Rick Randolph and he threw to 1st baseman Joe Locke to record the last out of the game and with it the joyous celebration began with the Baltimore Clippers winning the game 6 to 3 and winning the championship series 4 games to 1. As the Baltimore Clippers players celebrated in the infield, the fireworks commenced with a huge colorful display for a great team that accomplished what few teams have, winning 4 straight National Conference League titles, but only winning one major league championship title, but only because of having to face a buzz saw of a team in the Philadelphia Diamonds, playing the  Cincinnati Knights turned out to be what they needed to get over the hump.

When it was time for the presenting of the Carrington Cup Championship Series Trophy, team owner Charlie Radcliffe, team president Michael Donahue, team vp president of baseball operations Russ Thompson, and co assistant general managers Gene Hallowell and Bill Falstaf who was also the team field manager, they all accepted and held the trophy up high. But the spotlight showned brightly on star 2nd baseman Rick Randolph who was voted the championship series most valuable player who once again single handedly was the star hitter, recording 12 hits in 20 at bats for a .600 batting average, knocking in 7 rbi’s and scoring 6 runs himself. Rick Randolph was soaking up the celebration that was still going strong into the evening, for he knew what it all meant, especially since this was the 4th time on a title winning team and the 3rd time that he was selected the most valuable player of a championship series and was only 26 years old, cementing his spot as one of baseball’s greatest players.

The music started to play and then Rick Randolph’s country music singer wife Alicia Reynolds started singing one of her best known number 1 songs, the one that she wrote about and for Rick, titled “You’re My Mister Number One.
