Inconsolable Grief

 While listening to a sermon in church one Sunday, the minister told a story of the inconsolable grief of one of the members of his church, who had lost her only child, a little girl Margaret.  He had been in the habit of visiting her, trying to comfort her, but it seemed to be of no use.  One day when he called, he found her in her former cheerful self and asked her what wrought so great a change. 

She told him that she had a dream and saw little Margaret in the possession of many other little children, all robed in white and carrying lighted candles.  All the other children’s candles were burning brightly but little Margaret’s candle kept on going out.  She asked her why her candle would not stay lighted and little Margaret replied, “Mommy every time I light my candle, your tears there on earth put it out.  Please don’t cry for me mommy, for I am so happy here and do so want my candle to stay lighted too.”

She awoke from that dream determined that no more tears of hers would ever put little Margaret’s candle out again.  She gave little Margaret's toys and clothes to the shelters and in doing so, she too found happiness again.
