A child who uses crutches talks about a fall he had. He wasn't seriously hurt, but he WAS embarrassed.
(I had this very thing happen to ME just a bit ago while going to work. I fell, and other than a few minor scrapes, I am OKAY! REALLY! Turns out I got tonight off, as it is SLOWER than slow, so I guess I can write some before we go to the "American Idol" watch party!)
I don't know whether to laugh or to cry. I KNOW people musta' seen me when I went down!
I was walking by a hamburger joint, and I was walking with my twin sister (she was holding my bookbag; I can't, because I use crutches, and I have to hold onto the crutches when I walk), and I also walk with braces on my legs; but despite the braces and the crutches I do pretty good...MOST of the time, that is! Well, I was just toolin' along, mindin' my own business when my foot hooked into an uneven spot..and down I went. I couldn't stop myself from falling; it just...happened.
I knew to let go of the crutches when I found myself going forward; and gravity did the rest. I hit the ground with a loud, hard "OOMPH!", and my glasses flew off my face. I also bit my tongue pretty good, and I hit my chin on the sidewalk. When I went to see if I was bleeding, I was startled to find blood on my hand when I touched my chin, and I also tasted blood in my mouth. I must have cut my tongue when I fell.
My sister came running up to me, threw down our bookbags, and asked me if I was okay. I also heard people coming from the hamburger joint, and I remember a lady asking me, "Sonny, are you oKAY? Do I need to call for an ambulance? Are you hurt anywhere?", and I remmember a man asking me if I was okay. I told them I was okay, that I fall sometimes; but not to worry. I then got up somehow, and after my sister handed me my crutches, we then continued on our way home. That's when she noticed my ripped up pants and my scraped up chin and nose. I also scraped up my hands, and they were pretty sore. But I didn't break any bones (or at least I THINK I didn't!), and I could walk without TOO much pain, so I guess I was okay!
