Tonight is a special day for skywatchers, young and old.
Tonight will find me outside with most of my family, and I will have my sweater on, in case it gets chilly later; and I will also have my sleeping bag and of course, the mosquito spray (with DEET in it, of course), so I don't run a risk of getting the dreaded West Nile bug. With MY lovely health history, that is one thing I do NOT need! That would be NASTY!!! LOL
Tonight we will be watching a meteor shower, and according to www.spaceweather.com and other Internet sites dealing with nature and outer space, the show is supposed to be brighter than normal. The annual Perseid meteor shower is in town, and it is supposed to be nothing short of spectacular.
We watch the Leonids in November, and also the Geminids in December; there are several opportunities to watch meteor showers during the year. Tonight it is the Perseid's turn to shine, and you can bet that we will have a front row seat to catch all the action in the skies above our heads! God promises a meteor spectacular that we will NEVER forget! There is supposed to be as many as 100 meteors per HOUR! WOW! That is a LOT of meteors flying about! I just hope none decide to pay US an unexpected visit or bounce off our pointed little heads! OW! That may be a mite on the painful side! (Hmmmm...on THAT note, wonder if I will have to take my umbrella or wear a hard hat? I don't want any ol' meteor bouncing off MY head; that would HURT! OW! PAIN LINES! LOL)
You know what would be cool? To see the Northern Lights along with the meteors! That would be TOO AWESOME!! I can't wait until later on tonight; just let me outside, and let me start watching for meteors! I bet I could find every one that goes across the sky; I have GREAT eyes! LOL
Marvelous, Karen! One of the first short stories I ever wrote was about a young boy who got a telescope for his birthday, and he absolutely could not wait to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower.
The absolute enthusiasm over the heavenly sights above in this write makes me want to run out and buy a new telescope, too!
