Deepa Arjuwal, born in India but now living in America, continues to lament the losses of her brother and sisters, who all perished in the earthquake/tsunami disaster on December 26, 2004. Thankfully, her mother survived; but she is currently in the hospital recovering from pneumonia and injuries sustained from the tsunami.
I still continue to cry; just the mere mention of the disaster that struck southeastern Asia and killed nearly a quarter of a million people (with many more still missing or unaccounted for) is more than enough to cause tears to prick at my eyes and mourn the losses of my brother, Arjun, and my sisters, Sita and Rani. My Ma survived; but she is in hospital in India, where she has pneumonia and other injuries. It will be a while before she is well; until then, I shall worry.

This is Deepa Arjuwal again. I am not having an easy time of it now; my life is full of pain and incredible sadness that shall drive me mad. I can't believe that part of my family is gone; and I can't believe that so many nations were effected by the disaster. I see the images replaying in my mind, and I can't seem to pull myself away from the telly and the news; I have to know what the latest information is concerning my homeland, and my relatives still unheard from. I try to keep my mind occupied with schooling and my studies, or with my work, but the disaster is never far from my mind, and my heart breaks more and more each day.

My daddy, Venkatesh, is still preparing to go to India to help out with the victims, and I still grieve; it seems that all I have done since the day this happened is cry. My eyes are sore and reddened from crying, my chest hurts, and I wish that the tsunami would have killed ME instead of my brother and sisters! I wish I were the one that had been there at the time disaster struck; I can't imagine my life without Rani, Arjun, or Sita!!

I have not been out of my house except to go to university or my job at hospital, but I can't concentrate or seem to stop crying. It is as though time has stopped, and everything around me is moving, yet I remain stationary. I don't eat well now, and just the mere thought of food nauseates me horribly. I don't know how I am going to make funeral arrangements for my dead family members or get the time off (or the necessary funds) to go to India, so I can attend the funeral for my family members that died or visit my Ma, who is currently in hospital!

The story is written so well and one of the problems of the survivors being hit by water is the pnuemonia that sets in.
