Roberto Sormiento, already a proud father to three children, finds himself the father to six more, this time triplets, all boys.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I keep thinking all of this is a crazy, mixed-up dream, but each time I open my eyes or pinch myself, I see the beautiful, softly-breathing form of my still-sleeping wife in the hospital bed before me, and I suddenly realize that she isn't nearly as huge as she was prior to just a few days before, when all of this drama started unfolding.
This is Roberto Sormiento. My dear wife, M'Buti has done it yet again: gave me another child (in THIS case, childREN!). In all actuality, she gave me more than childREN: she gave me not one, not two, but THREE sons, all reportedly in (reasonably) good health, all showing no signs of defect or disability (although the smallest out of the trio was born without breath, without a pulse; but quick action spared his little life, and he is now resting fairly comfortably in the NICU, along with his twin brothers), and all just absolutely perfect! They look like miniture versions of their older brother, Kibarake, but with my coloring.
We don't know what we are going to name our three newest additions to the family; but one thing IS certain: they will probably have African names, as do their older siblings, and they will probably have Hispanic middle names, again like their older siblings; and one of the boys will at least share the name of M'Buti's deceased father, M'Baki. That much we know already; but what to name them is entirely up to M'Buti as soon as she is awake (or is feeling stronger; she really still has no idea that she is now the proud mother to TRIPLET boys!!). I already called M'Buti's brothers in Africa, Keserian and Naiser, and as of this writing, they are already on their way here to America, so they can see the three newest "bulls" (in Maasai culture, cattle are highly revered, and when the human baby is born, they are often referred to as "calves", with "bulls" signifying that the child is a male, and "heifer" signifying that the child is a female). I know they are beyond estatic, and I know that they will surely spoil their nephews when the babies are a little older.
The twins, Eshe' and Kibarake, do not really know that they have three new little brothers, but Jubaki, our oldest son (he will be seven in June) is absolutely aglow, and he is already telling his friends around the neighborhood (and at school) that he is a "big brudder". He can't seem to stop talking about the babies, especially since I took him yesterday to the nursery, so he could look in to the nursery and see the babies courtesy of a plexiglass window. The babies are quite tiny (two weigh just over four pounds, and the biggest one is a hefty "five-pounder"), and the littlest baby is lying under an oxygen tent, where his breathing and other vital signs are continously being monitored. But according to the NICU staff, the little guy is a fighter, and he is currently doing very well. When little Jubaki first saw his triplet brothers, I didn't know whether he was going to laugh or cry, but he was quite surprised, to say the very least!
My mother and father are also on their way from Texas; we should expect them sometime tomorrow; and they will probably stay with us and help us in our time of need, taking care of the older children while M'Buti and myself tend to the needs of our newest children after they come home from the hospital. The one will probably come home by the beginning or the middle of next week; and the others, probably in a week or two at the very most (barring any unforseen complications). M'Buti will also probably remain in the hospital as a precautionary measure since her health isn't the greatest in the world, and they want to make sure that she is going to be okay as she recovers from the births of our newest Miracle Children.
Parents to six children. God, I never believed that such a thing was possible; but M'Buti wanted a family; and a family was what she got!!
We just may end up needing a bigger house....it's already getting too crowded already with a school-aged son and two extremely active toddlers who are about to turn three years old next month! Things are crazy at best at the Sormiento residence (and I am afraid that it is only going to get crazier once we get all the babies home from the hospital)...YIKES!

There is a soldier from our area that has four babies all boys born while he was in Iraq but he is home now with his wife in another state. All the babies are doing well and so cute. This is an interesting write Karen.
I bet Roberto's chest is swelled up like anything. :) First pregnancy, one baby; second, twins; third, triplets...LOL If i were M'Buti, I'd have him "fixed." LOL
