A young girl with Down's syndrome shares her story, in her own words.

 My name is Cozy Marie Breaux, and I am 7 years old, I live with my mama and my daddy in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. That's where we live. I have long brown hair and brown eyes, and I am very pretty.
I have Down's syndrome, that's coz an extra cromosome was made, and it messed me up. I am retarted, and I have trouble learning things. I also have funny looking eyes, like China man's, and I have stubby fingers and toes, and I am little for my age. I look like I am five, but I am seven. I also have heart problems, and if my heart acts up, I get tired, and I have to rest.
I have brothers named Corey and Colby, and a sister, Cody, and they are younger than me. Cody is six, and Corey and Colby are four and three. I get along with them okay, but sometimes they pick on me, and I cry. Mama tells them to stop coz that is mean to tease, and they shouldn't do that, no! Mama then picks me up and gives me a big hug, and I usually then feel better.
I like to wear pretty clothes (pink is my favrite color), play dress-up, play with my dollies, look at picture books, color, and go to church. We go to the Rock of Salvation Church here in Breaux Bridge; we are Christins, and we believe in Jesus. I also like to go to fais do dos on Saturdays, and dance to Cajun music. But I don't dance fast, I just dance to the slow stuff, and if I get tired, I stop, and I rest. I also love to eat, especially jambalya, gumbo, etoufee, and praline ice cream, YUM! I also love oatmeal cookies and chocolate cake. But mama say I am getting fat, so I have to eat more frut, more vegtables, so it doesn't make my heart act up. Being fat isn't good when you have heart problems. So I have to be careful and exercise.
I also love going to pysical and spech therpy and meet my therpists, who work with me. I go to therpy two times a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. I am in the first grade at Acadiana Elementry School, and my teacher is Ms. Fontenot. She is really nice. I have lots of friends at school, but my bestest buddy is Aurora Templet.
I have a cat, her name is "Swiggles". She is very furry, and she purrs a lot, and she plays with me. I wish I could take her to school, but mama says I can't, she has to stay home coz she is a cat, and they don't let cats in school. But I AM glad to see her when I get home! Then we play until I have to eat and then I go to bed, and then my day starts all over again.
