Sikik Eegeesiak is depressed about how things are going. She is writing a farewell letter to her friend, she feels that being friends with a stranger is only jeopardizing her health and her heritage. This letter was very difficult for her to write.

Author's Note: This will NOT be the last you will have heard from Sikik Eegeesiak. I am planning a series of stories about her in journal form; so there will be more from Sikik in the future. Stay tuned!

Dear Louisiana, My Friend Of The Lower 48~

I am sorry for burdening you and telling you of my troubles, but I have nobody to talk to other than my family, and I feel that I am being punished by the spirits; this is why I have fallen ill and have nothing but misfortune and misery.

If my brothers knew I wrote to you, they would only be angry with me or laugh at me because they think I will lose my Inuit ways and become a Dog Child like you. Please do not take offense at this term, but this is what we, the Inuit, the Beautiful People, call people who are NOT Inuit. This is why I do not believe in your ways because I am Inuit, and I feel I must retain my Inuit ways. I hope you understand my feelings about your God, your Jesus, that is okay if you so choose to believe in them, but I find them unfamiliar, so foreign, and I am more confused now than I was before I first heard of them.

I am sorry to learn of your friends' illnesses. I hope it is nothing that I may have done. No wonder the aqsarriit have been blood-colored lately. They are angry with me because I have abandoned my Inuit ways, I have shamed the picture-memories of Mother, Father, and my ancestors, and I am ashamed of myself for trying to act like Something I am not.

Until I know what is going on with my health (and also my feelings), I feel I must stop writing to you. I am only depressing myself all the more, and that is not good for me. I will write again one day, but it may be a very long while. Please do not worry about me; I will make it; I AM Inuk!! Just keep me in your thoughts and try to understand my feelings, confused they may currently be. I will never forget you, dear Louisiana, and I thank you for befriending me. I love you!

Goodbye for now. Please tell your Northern Lights family I will remember them always!

~Sikik Grace Eegeesiak. :( >tears<

Such a sad and yet so beautiful write! I wish we were this compassionate. Love each other unconditionally irrespective of our differences. Ignorance has become hateful these days. Once someone is different and you don't understand his ways, he then becomes the enmy - because if ignorance. Its sad. Beautiful inspirational write, Karen!

God bless, sweets!

Sandie.
