Dear Louisiana Sandusky~
I am a parent just like yourself, but it concerns me that you are taking on more children when you already have more than enough. Isn't fifty plus children a bit extreme?
I took the time to read your story ("A Family Made Out Of Miracles And Rainbows" and also its sequel, "...And The Miracles Continue"), and I did not like either book. You obviously love your children (that is, suffice to say, they look well-cared for), but why do you adopt kids who are inferior or impaired in some way? There are plenty of healthy, non-handicapped children who need a home or a family; why not adopt some of them?
My name is Jennifer Vaughan-Pierceson, and I live in Dalton, Georgia, with my husband, Chris, and our two small sons, Nickolas (6) and Maddox (2). We do not go to church; we are athiests. We do not believe in God.
I have always had a problem with "do-good" type people like yourself, people who are bent on saving the world. I do not need any help, thank you, and I do not believe children who are sick/handicapped/dying should not be adopted: it is only asking for disappointment or heartbreak down the road. Let these poor, tragic children live out their remaining years (months/weeks) in facilities where they can be properly cared for by experienced professionals.
I do not mean to come across as harsh, but I have always had problems with handicapped children. Maybe it is the sight of their imperfections that bother me, I don't know; but the very sight of handicapped children disgusts me. They should not be out in the public eye to be gawked at by the rest of the world; they are much better off being hidden away!
I don't know why I read your books, but I did, and this is why I am writing to you. Both of your books were boring, ill-conceived, and poorly written, almost to the point of being mawkish at times. I also disagree on some of your views and I don't think you ought to be forcing your Christian beliefs on those such as myself; isn't that a bit sacriligious?
If you don't write back to me, I would not be surprised; but I had to vent my concerns and let you know that I did read your story.
I still say your children would be better off in an institutionalized (or medical) setting instead of being put on display as though they were dogs in a premier dog show. I would call that abuse in the worst way.
I would go as far as saying that you are exploiting them. All I have to ask is this: Why??

If it was me...I would use controlled aggression tempered with honesty and frankness...
