Jennifer in Georgia writes back to Louisiana Sandusky in Tennessee upon receiving a letter from her.

Louisiana~

I am sorry if you have had people attacking your family, but I still say you are wrong to take in so many tragic, sickly children into your family. Why even do it? That would be too depressing!

And what kind of questions do you mean, when you referred to "what would happen if one of my sons was born handicapped?" Also, what was the guise behind "If he were born handicapped, would you get rid of him or keep him?" Are you saying that I would kill one of my sons if he was born disabled? What a cruel, inhumane thing to say! Seems that you are the typical Christian hypocrite: you act all holy and self-righteous, but behind the scenes, you are just as bad as those who you preach against!

Why do I fear handicapped pepole so much? Because for starters you don't know what they are capable of doing, and when they make their noises or act all wrong in public, it only upsets people, and I am no exception. I had a neighbor (they have since moved on) who had a boy with Down's syndrome, and all the kid did was scream or bang his head at all hours of the night, and when I'd see him, he'd have all these horrible bruises or bumps on his head; it got to the point to where I was thinking his parents were abusing him. He was taken away from the parents, and last I heard, he was still living out  his days in an institution. I know his parents probably seemed happier when he was gone.

I also fear handicapped people because they are always getting extra attention, and it's like everything is done for them instead of everyone else. It's the same way for those sick kids who have cancer or cystic fibrosis. I realize they may need help, but what about those kids who are healthy who have problems? Don't they even matter as well? I see some of these sick or handicapped kids at stores or functions, and I get so mad I want to bash their ugly, sick faces in and wish that they would die so I wouldn't have to look at them.

I am sorry if I feel this way, but I can't help it. I have had too many bad experiences with people in my life, and I also had recent problems with my oldest son befriending a boy who was in a wheelchair, and the fellow was incontinent. Louie, he wore diapers like a baby, and he stunk a lot of the time; it made me very uncomfortable, and I don't want my kids hanging around those types of people. I think that is disgusting the way they smell at times!

I am glad you are happy raising children who need help, but personally, I find it offensive. I think that fifty plus children is going overboard, and I wonder why more people haven't reported you. You may say you are good parents, but are you really? How can you possibly keep watch over fifty children at once? I would be going crazy! Two is bad enough!! I just can't imagine the chaos or the noise levels that must go on there at your house!

Well, I will go now. I am too depressed. I can't fathom being in your position; that must be so hard dealing with kids who are sick or dying every day! I don't know how you do it, and I don't even want to try.

If you write back, I will be surprised, but if you don't, I can see why you wouldn't. Maybe it is ME with the problems. I obviously don't have my head screwed on right, and I may need to talk to someone about my inner fears or concerns! It is driving me crazy!

~Jennifer.

Seems like you struck a number of nerves with your recent posting. I think if this woman would realize that the "least of these" form the vary face of God, he attitude might change. If there were more people out there willing to make a difference in the lives of the disabled, you wouldn't have fifty kids to a home. There would not be enough children to go around. Keep doing what you do.

This woman has some odd views, that is for sure. It's going to be interesting to see how this story unfolds.

Good Lord, where did she get her point of view from! We can see a storm brewing here! We have to agree with Peter, she does need some therapy, urgently. See, you wrote so real that you've got us going, going, going...Great write!

This woman in Georgia sure seems to have an awful lot of pent up emotion and aggression against children with learnig difficulties...
It sounds to me like she should seek counselling and therapy for her own psychological instabilities..

Karen this is an awesome write. You address some real problems here! I know some people mostly men who cannot bear to be around sick people and especially handicapped. It can be a real problem for some. It isn't just a case of being mean either. One man used to come in my restaurant his wife got cancer, he couldn't bear to be with her anymore, and he supposedly loved her. He finally tried to get help and found out that his aversion was a physical condition he couldn't do much about. So we don't always know why people feel this way.Having worked several years with handicapped and mental patients, I can say it is no easy task. This is a great write, on the topic!

Karen,

If I were Louisiana, I wouldn't write to this woman; SHE'S the one with the problems. She wants to bash their face in when she sees them? A neighbor family is forced to move because she is uncomfortable with their son? Yipe. Heartbreaking story, very dramatically and well told.

(((HUGS))) and love, karla.
