Ronee' writes about her first week of school. She is now in high school, where she is a freshman.

Friday, September 14, 2007, 3:50 a.m., D.S.T., Nashville, Tennessee~

Dear Journal~

Well, I am "official". I am an official high school student! I am now in the ninth grade, and even though I have only been in school for a week, I've already gotten nailed with homework--TONS of it. Seems like I am holed up in my room most nights, trying to get my homework completed!

I am now a freshman at Nashville's Donelson Senior High School. These are the last years of my academic career; pretty soon I will be thinking of where I am going to attend college (right now, I am trying to decide between Tennessee State University and Louisiana State University-Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana). I will also have to try to decide on a career in case my music one fizzles out.

I seem to like the teachers okay, but I get nervous whenever it comes time to switch classes. Donelson is a big school; hundreds of kids go there, and a lot of them are...um, shall we say huge? Or taller than normal? I am not a little person by any stretch of the imagination, but I am short: I am only as tall as a typical 10-to-12 year-old kid; I look a lot younger than my fourteen years. In short, I look more like a fifth grader than a ninth grader!

I go out into the hallways between classes; I always end up feeling claustrophobic because of all the kids milling the halls as they navigate their way to their next class. It doesn't help matters any that I am on crutches right now (get my cast off next week; canNOT wait!!); I am not exactly Miss Cheetah here! The kids keep runnin' into me with their backpacks or their books, and I am scared that I am going to get stampeded somehow! (That or knocked down!)

In school, I am taking the following classes: Conversational Spanish, Music/Show Choir, English, Applied Social Studies, Science, Algebra, (Adapted) Phys. Ed (although right now I am exempt due to my broken paw; I have a legit excuse not to participate!), Bible Theory, and Art/Art Concepts. I have a full load, as you can see; I usually have homework, scads of homework, every night.

I think I like English, Spanish, Music/Show Choir, Science, Bible Theory, Art/Art Concepts, Adapted PE, and Algebra the most. I am not so sure about Applied Social Studies yet. That looks like it's going to be over my head; and that's not easy, since I am a genius! LOL

I am looking forward to the first football game, which is tonight. We are going to the game, and I like the excitement of the football atmosphere. I have always liked football, and I really like it now that my sister Barbara has played on the team for the past several years; she is the team's quarterback, and she's really good on the field! (She's a lot braver than I'll ever be; don't think I will be playing football any time soon! LOL They'd tackle me for sure, or else they'd use me FOR the football! LOL)

My teachers all seem to be nice, but Mr. Dunsmore, the Applied Social Studies instructor, looks like he is going to be tough. He doesn't seem all that friendly, and when you're in his class, he is all business; no room for cutting up or having fun in HIS class. (NICE.)

Well, I am going to try to get an additional hour's sleep before the alarm chimes at 5:30; then have to be on the bus at seven. Not much time for me to get ready. *Groan!* I will go for now; will write in here again. Maybe next time I can give you all the juicy details about tonight's game! Stay tuned!

C ya!

~Love, your gal pal, Ronee' Le-Anne ("I Can't Believe I Have All This Homework!!") Reaux. :D

P.S.: At times I feel just like that little guy in the picture: so much homework to do I don't know which end is up! LOL

~Ronee'. :D

Oh, how "little" Ronee is growing up! That's one of the really wonderful things about your stories, they are so real. I sure hope this Applied Social Studies Instructor Mr. Drunsmore will losen up a little!
Love and hugs, R&B

High school is tough...when I was in school, we didn't have a middle school or jr. high...we went straight from elementary to high school, talk about a scary event. We were taken from a safe school of students that we had known since kindergarten and suddenly placed with a school full of students that we didn't know, from a place where we had made our place and mark, to being a nobody! It was a tough year, all in all though it went well, I adjusted! Great write, you've captured the thoughts of a freshman, as well as give the readers a trip down memory lane! Enjoyed!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Karen this was neat, I think we all have those nights when we have so much to do we wonder if there will be time for rest and don't know which end is up. Ronee will have to adjust to the real world of HOMEWORK, great write,.
