An update on a special little girl, as written by her mother.
Hello! This is Carole Whitfield, Kinsi's mother, also Hannah's! Thought I'd write in here, to let you know how we are doing, in particular, Kinsi, our youngest.
Sorry for not writing in here sooner; been busy taking care of my daughter Hannah Grace, and running to and from the hospital to see Kinsi, who is recovering from a bacterial infection. For a while, it seemed that she was going to die; yet she survived, which is nothing short of a miracle.
We are back home here in Sonora, California, where we live. We would have been home right after Thanksgiving, but Kinsi had another seizure; she spent a month in the hospital, fighting to live. She's since recovered, but it left her weakened. Which is one reason why she had the bacterial infection; her body isn't strong to fight off bugs that may come her way.
Kinsi's appeared to turn the corner, which has been a huge answer to prayer. When I told the congregation yesterday about Kinsi getting better, they all broke out in applause, and Pastor Green gave us a huge hug. They were very happy to hear the news.
Kinsi, as you know, has cerebral palsy. At seven, she cannot walk or talk; yet she's a great little communicator: her eyes are her means of communication, as is her face. She can make noises; her noises are indicators as to how she's feeling.
Hannah is very good with her little sister. She helps her with getting dressed, brushing her hair or teeth, feeding her, making sure she's comfortable--not too warm, not too cold. We are very proud of how well she helps out with Kinsi's care.
We know it must be hard for her because Hannah probably feels cheated in having a sister who cannot talk, read, play, walk. We allow her to express her feelings, and we give her two days a week where it's nothing but "Hannah Time", where she can spend the day with friends, going to the mall with us, or allowing her to express her true feelings about what's going on in her world. This way, we're involved in her life, too, not just Kinsi's. We make her feel loved, appreciated, important, and it's good for her development.
Sometimes Hannah says she hates Kinsi for being handicapped; it hurts, but we allow her to grieve, to cry. It's healing for her, and for us. We don't like it any better than she does, but we try to make the best out of what's been handed to us, and we find ourselves having a deeper love, appreciation for those kids, adults who "aren't perfect".
Even with all her problems, we see just how blessed Kinsi really is. She can see. She can hear. She can eat (with help, but she is able to eat). She just doesn't lie there in bed like a lump; and she isn't fed by a tube. Kinsi is a lot smarter than what people give her credit for.
At seven, Kinsi is a typical little girl: she loves the color pink, kittens, puppies, watching "Ratatouille" and "Pocahontas" on the DVD player, playing games with her sister, listening to music (especially country/western and gospel/praise music), and going to church, among other things. She loves being held, read to, talked to; she loves people, and whenever there are people around, this is where she really shines, comes alive.
Well, I am going to take a shower, get dressed, and then Bob and myself are going to visit Kinsi. Hopefully she continues to do as well as she's been doing for the past several days. We will let you know how she is progressing in her recovery. You haven't heard the last of her story, or from us!
Take care and God bless!

Hello Carole there, sorry to hear about your tribulations, but look at it this way, more you talk about it, more help you will get from totally strangers that wish to do something instead of just talking, and, but not the least, your story will tell many that they are not alone and that they too don't need to hide their pain, that out there are some willing to share it to make it lesser.
God bless.
Georg
