Bill writes about the recent decision they made in not adopting any more children and of the thought of being investigated by the state. As you can imagine, he's very angry about the whole thing.
Sorry for not writing; things have been crazy at best--and it's just not with raising all of our children either.
We're in the middle of a court battle, trying to prevent our children from being taken away. Seems some more nosy neighbors have been spying on us, and they think we're being abusive to the children when we are being anything but.
It all started when our now-second youngest child, two-year-old Emir, fell down the stairs. He wasn't badly hurt (much to our relief); however, he had some terrible bruises on his face, shoulders, and arms, and people got suspicious, so they called the Bureau of Child Welfare on us and reported us.
Now we're being investigated by them and the police have come to our house several times trying to get further details on what's happened.
We've been in court several times this past week trying to clear our name. We have our adoption caseworker and our regular attourney handling our case, and it's been nothing short of a nightmare.
How long this will drag on is unknown at this time. We could spend weeks going to court on this matter.
We love our children too much to ever think of hurting them. They are our world, our life, our very reason for existing. Now because of an unfortunate childhood accident (with no abuse involved whatsoever), we're in danger of having the children who are still at home with us taken away from us, where they may then be put into foster care until things blow over.
If that were to happen, I don't think I or Louie could ever forgive ourselves!
As a result of this event, we've decided (with heavy hearts) that we won't be adopting any more children. We already have more than enough now, and the care involved is running us broke. We've often had to ask for money so we can pay our bills, provide for our children's needs, and it's been horrible at best.
It is often said that the Lord doesn't give you more than you can handle; however, I'm beginning to wonder about that claim. It seems we've been run through the mill lately, and it's gotten us both on edge.
We've been on our faces in prayer, praying for a miracle about this situation that's wracked our lives. It looks like this is the only thing that will help us get through this matter.
I don't know why some people have to be so mean, so vindictive to try to ruin the lives of others, especially those who are only trying to help the less fortunate or trying to make the world a better place (in our case, adopting children with special needs).
This is exactly what's happened, and now I'm on emergency leave from work (as is Louie) until we get all this legal mess with the state of Tennessee straightened out.
Just keep us in your prayers; we really could use a huge miracle right now!
