My grandpere' is sad today. You see, today marks the anniversary of his wife's death. Even though he is remarried to a lovely Cajun lady named Therese he still cannot forget the memory of his first wife, Claudia, who died of cancer. (She died 5 years ago. They had been married 30 years.)
I look at his tanned, tear-stained cheeks and the twin rivulets of tears cascading down his face; and I get a lump in my throat. How I wish I could think of a way to cheer him up!...
Now grandpere' may not have much education, and his English may not be all that great, but I know how he is feeling just by looking at his face and at his eyes. And I know today he aches for his deceased wife. She really suffered with this cancer business. She lost a lot of weight and she lost all her hair, and she died in excruciating pain. I know. I saw her die. It was very upsetting. I don't think I'll ever forget it as long as I live.
My grandpere's name is Armand Moliere'. He may be 65, but today he looks considerably older.
Jesus, have Mercy on my grandpere' Armand's soul...
