My name is Ronee' Le-Anne Reaux, and I just completed the third grade. I will be starting the fourth grade come September of this year. I am 9, nearly 9 1/2 years old. (I will be ten come December 25, Christmas Day.)
I have had a good time in school; school has always been very easy for me. I have especially enjoyed school this year and last year, primarily due to my teacher, Ms. Irlene Hemingway.
Ms. Hemingway is in her 60s, has grey hair that is nearly white, and she has blue eyes; and she has wrinkles on her face; but she is still very beautiful (I think). She usually wears slacks, sensible, flat-heeled shoes, and nice, colorful blouses or shirts; she never looks sloppy. She takes pride in her appearance.
Ms. Hemingway is a very good teacher. She lets us kids work at our own pace, and she never rushes us in getting our assignments completed; she knows that some of us (like me, as an example) need extra time in getting our homework done because of handicap, schedules, or whatever. She knows that I have problems with my joints and have problems with my fingers, so she lets me work on my homework when I can, and she also knows that I need extra time in getting from place to place, so she makes allowances for that, too. I have arthritis, and I am often in a lot of pain; and I use crutches (or a wheelchair when my joints/pain is especially bad). She also treats us kids the same; there are no favorites when it comes to her students. And, perhaps, best of all, she treats us kids the way we would LIKE to be treated: with RESPECT.
Ms. Hemingway is also full of good ideas. She teaches us about the most interesting things, and she lets us work in groups (or individually if we so choose), and she is always telling us about what is going on in the world and being upfront and honest about it. Like last September 11, when America was hit by terrorists. She told us what had happened, and she told us that we were not to be scared, but to pray; and she assured us that we would be okay and that we were safe. It was a very scary time, but she tried to comfort us in the best way she knew how; and she knew we wanted to go home to our families, so she let us after the principal had cancelled school. (We were out of school for a week.)
She also had interesting people come in and talk. She had different children's authors come in and talk about their books during our annual book fair, and she also had people in the community talk about their jobs and why they did the jobs they did. Like Officer Flaherty, who is a policeman, who talked about staying safe and what to do if threatened or in danger. He also talked about why it is so important to stay away from drugs, and how to protect ourselves. It was really an interesting talk.
She also had times for fun, like when we'd go on field trips. We'd go to places like the zoo or to the hospital, and we'd also go to the local police or fire station or some other place in the community. She made learning about new things a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed my time in her class.
Come September I will have a different teacher. I just hope she is as good as Ms. Hemingway was!! I feel very privilaged to know I had such a good teacher in Ms. Hemingway. She was just about the best teacher I ever had!!
Princess Geneveive has a wonderful home, with humans who love her. She and her humans try to talk to each other but Genevierve dosn't speak human and her humans don't speak dog. Genevieve often wishes she had another dog to talk to.
