It is thundering and lightning out, and the rain is beating down on my window and on the roof; it sounds like a man is playing the drums...The streets and yards are briefly illuminated by the quick flashes of lightning; it reminds me somewhat of a camera in the sky. The thunder blasts immediately after the flash, and it causes my heart to hammer in my ears as my breathing quickens in fear of what may come. (The sound of the tornado siren going off, to warn us of an approaching tornado, perhaps?)
I ought to be ashamed of myself. I am 13 years old; yet I am scared of storms. I am acting like a little kid. My little sister, Ronee', is whimpering like a little puppy; she is as terrified of storms as I am, if not, even more. Plus it DOESN'T help that she has arthritis, and the rain and the inclimate weather MUST be playing absolute HAVOC with her joints! My other little sister, Gemini, is sound asleep in the midst of all the flashing lightning and the crashing thunder. (I don't know HOW she can sleep with all of this racket!!)
My little brother, Johnny, is up; I can hear his wheelchair rolling across the floor in his room. And his weather radio is going off. Hmm. I'm sure we are under severe weather watches or warnings as I lie here in bed...Hopefully he'll turn off that CONFOUNDED weather alarm!...
I also hear Jodie crying; she doesn't like storms either. I also can hear the cats meowing and the dogs barking; they aren't exactly thrilled with the wild weather either. I know it is summer, and storms are common during the spring and summer months of the year here in the south, but DO THEY HAVE TO WAKE US UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHEN WE ARE TRYING TO SLEEP??????
