A future storm chaser looks forward to the upcoming spring season, time for tornadoes and turmoil.

I am only nine years old; however, that doesn't stop me from knowing what I want to be in life.

A storm chaser.  Or perhaps a weather man.  Yeah, that's what I want to be.  I want to help keep people safe when skies go black and the wind starts to howl.

Found out today that there's a storm conference in Texas.  I went to a weather site; the people on there were talking about the Tessa (Texas Severe Storms Association) conference to be held on Saturday, March 14, 2009 (weather permitting) in Colleyville, Texas.  My uncle Twister called from Oklahoma and told me he's going; he wanted to know if he could have a little buddy (me) go along with him!

I'm like, "Yes!"  I would love to go; I could meet some hotshot weather people, see what they're made of, see what got them interested in storms in the first place.  That would be too cool!

If I could just convince my mommy and daddy to let me go to Texas, I'd have it made!  I want to go so bad I can't stand it!!

Maybe some big time weather chasers will be there.  Like Warren Faidley or Jim Reed.  I'd love to meet them!  Most kids my age want to meet sports heroes or celebrities.  Not me!  I'd much rather meet weather forecasters or chasers!!  LOL

I could impress them with my knowledge of weather.  I can only hope so; I don't want to sound like a total dweeb!  LOL

They'd probably look down their noses at me; I can hear them now:  "Go away; you're just a kid!"  Yeah, I'm a kid; so what??  Can't change that; but I'll grow up!  And I already know what to do, which is more than I can say about most kids my age!

I don't know what got me interested in weather.  Maybe it's 'cause of my uncle in Oklahoma, or maybe it's because I've seen some pretty big 'boomers roll through Atlanta.  Somehow the sound of rolling thunderstorms and the sight of lightning piercing the blackened skies got my appetite for "all things weather" going; I've been crazy about weather ever since!  :)

I mean, last year, we even had a tornado here.  I even saw it before mommy grabbed me and pulled me into the basement.  I was like, "Awww, come ON, mommy; I wanna watch it!", and she's like, "Not on your life, Spinner; you want to die??"  I'm like, "Yeah, but at least I died doing something that made me happy!"  That was before she busted me right on the butt for backsassin' her.  LOL

Have been using my new camera Santa Claus got me for Christmas, taking pictures of clouds, the moon, the sun, the stars.  Anything to do with sky, there I am, snapping away as I look up.  Mommy is getting tired of having to replace the batteries every few days; the camera is always with me, and it takes 16 hours to charge the stupid batteries.  LOL

My little brother Carston Stryker is doing okay.  No new problems with his spina bifida, which makes all of us happy.  When he's sick or in the hospital, we worry a lot; but since he's been doing okay, we're much more relaxed, able to enjoy life.  Maeli, meanwhile (Maeli's my little sister), is as annoying as ever.  She has mommy and daddy wrapped around her little finger; she can do nothing wrong while, if Carston or I mess up, they lower the boom on us.

Boo, hiss!  Not fair AT all!!

On my best behavior now, because I want to go to the Tessa conference I wrote about earlier! :)

Mommy and daddy won't recognize me, 'cause I'm going to do everything they ask me to do without complaining.  I'll act like if Santa Claus is coming back.  :)  I know Christmas is over, but I can't help it.  That Tessa thing in Texas has me plumb excited; it would be a weather fanatic's dream come true !  LOL  :)

Well, it's time for little future storm chasers to have sweet tornado dreams, so I must go.  I hear mommy calling, telling me it's time for bed, as I have school tomorrow.  On that note, goodnight; don't let the tornadoes bite!  :)  God bless, and bye for now!

~Love, your storm-crazy friend in Georgia, Spinner Regan.  :D

Nine years old storm chaser?! Oh little girl! you have a greater chore in front of you, helping mommy with Carlston so he don't need to visit the hospital often. Many times care and hugs and smiles are better that any other medicine, it will be time in the future to chase storms.
And...don't backtalk to Mommy if you want to sit pretty.
:-) LOL

Kids with this kind of ambition would be worth listening to. Not only that, if we listened more to kids with career dreams, we might encourage them to follow their dream. A good write.

Karen,

Glad I could inspire this story in some smallish way. =] Thank you, am honored you named one of your characters after me! LOL

And that piccy: would NOT have gotten it if you hadn't said, "Karla, isn't that a shelf cloud?" Have camera, will travel. So, off to the "porch" of the Golden Corral to film the incoming storm, "War of the World" skies and tornado watches and all. LOL

So, unwilling chase partner, you're in it for the long haul. LOL Hope we can go to the TESSA conference, that would be cool! Weather permitting, of course. LOL Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
