     Arturo Jiminez is coping with the death of his beloved abuela, or grandmother, who died after complications resulting from a stroke, among other things.

Hola!  Como esta usted?  Mi, es no bueno. 

My beloved abuela is dead.  She died last week after complications.  She'd been in the hospital for over a week now due to a stroke; we'd been home when she collapsed at the kitchen table.  After la ambulancia carted her off to the hospital, we went to see her.  She never even woke up again.  Turned out she'd had a stroke, according to el medico, a bad one.

The funeral was this past Monday.  We all went. It was a most sad affair.  Poor Mami, she was beside herself; after all, that was her madre.  Many people came, some from far away as Mexico and South America; there were many tears shed.  Turns out mi abuela was very well loved.

This is Arturo Jiminez, if you haven't figured that out already. 

Besides the passing of mi abuela, I am coping with the kids teasing me about my Mexican heritage.  I can't help it I was born Mexicano; it's when they tell me to "go back to Mexico" that gets me steamed.  For one thing, I was born in America; I speak Ingles  as well as Espanol!!

Maybe this is one reason why I fight.  Maybe one day I will get brave, beat the crappola out of any estupido gringo kid who teases me once too many times.  Already did that right after my grandma got sick; got suspended from school for a week.  Made me mad; worse, it drove my parents crazy!!  I was grounded until just this past Monday; they tell me to watch my step this time, or else they will send me to military school!

Ay caramba!!  I don't need that, on top of everything else that's piled atop of me!!  My life, she is muy loca as it is!!

Why can't my parents understand that I have to put up with so much shit at school?  It's no wonder my grades are so bad!  I mean, you try to keep your grades up when all you hear are the other kids calling me "Wetback", "Beaner", "GreenCard", "Spic", or worse, most of the live long day!  Not easy to try to study when the other kids are determined to make my life a living hellhole!!

I sometimes wish I were with Abuela; I really miss her so bad!!  Why did she have to be the one to die; why couldn't it have been me????

That way, I wouldn't have to put up with my parents bugging me to pull up my grades or threatening me with military school, or with the stupid kids calling me bad names!  From what I've heard, Heaven must not be that bad of a place to live! 

Well, I've done managed to make myself muy triste again, so I will vamanos.  I will write in here again another time; maybe by then, life will be much better for me!  Lord, I hope so; I can't take too much of this drama!!  Adios, amigos!  Hasta luego!

Arturo, in Nam I had in my numbers a five generations Chinese-American and yet he got badmouthed by slurs like "chink" "yellow belly" and more.
But he was the one that carried on his shoulders one of his wounded tormentors to the rescue chopper.
Derogative words only gives a measure of whom derogate.

It is cruel that kids can be this way towards other kids but who can we really blame...they have to learn this somewhere.
