Ice writes in her journal to continue her story. She is relieved that her younger sister, Fawn Jerrica, who is thirteen, is recovering in light of her recent illness. (She is in the hospital.) She is also relieved to be on spring break from school.

Hola!  Como esta usted?

It's your friend, Ice Jasmine Esquivar, from Trenton, New Jersey, writing!  Hope this finds you in the best of health!

I'm doing good; so is most of my family.  Mami, papi, my brothers Jesus and Bronson, and my sister Neveah.  My oldest sister (three years younger than me, so she's my little sister), Fawn, however, is in the hospital, but I'm happy to say she's doing a lot better than she was last week when I wrote.

Fawn, who is thirteen, is a special child.  She was abused as a child; it left her severely brain damaged:  she has the mindset of a very young baby; there's not a lot she can do for herself, so we take care of her.  Anyway, she had another bad upper respiratory infection that caused her to have trouble with her breathing, so this was why she had to go into the hospital.

Well, she got vey sick, but now she's doing a lot better, as I just said.  She's out of the ICU now, and is starting to take nourishment (by her tube, but at least she's "eating" again!) and is breathing with only a little tube in her nostrils (oxygen).  Her doctors are pleased at her progress; she may get to go home in a few days if she continues to do as well as she is doing.

I'm also happy because I'm out of school this week.  Spring break.  I am sooo happy; school can be a pain in my rear!  They've really been piling on the homework thick, and I'm tired of having to hit the books nearly every night!

I wish I could say the weather is co-operating, but nope.  Too cold to enjoy being outside; it may be spring according to the calendar; the weather says it's still winter.  Winter is going to hang on as long as possible around these parts!  I am soooo sick of cold, rainy (or snowy) weather I could just spit enchiladas!  I'm more than ready for sunshine, warm temperatures, and flowers!!

My brother Bronson, who has autism, is being a brat.  Just earlier today he bit Nevaeh; he took a good plug out of her arm.  She screamed like a banshee; it scared the heck out of all of us; we thought she'd fallen or something.  When mami saw what happened, she put Bronson in time-out; he's to learn that biting people is not the way to get what he wants!

He also upset the plants, dumped the dirt all over the floor, after I'd just vacuumed it.  He's now in his room, but I don't know he realizes how bad he was.  It seems to go in one ear and out the other; it's like he lives in his own little world.  The rest of us don't matter; it's Bronson or the highway, as far as he's concerned.

Then Jesus (pronounced Hay-soos, NOT Jee-sus) broke a window in the livingroom after bouncing a basketball, and it got away from him.  *CRASH*  Another near-heart attack on all of our parts.  He's in time out too; he also has to pay for the window he broke.

I don't know what it is about rainy weather that brings out the worst in kids, but somehow they seem to go hand-in-hand!

I'm so annoyed at my brothers and sister right now I could just spit!  I'm just glad Fawnie is missing all the fun!  LOL  (Though I wish she were not in the hospital; I'd rather have her home with us!)

We go back to school on Monday, then we go until the Friday before Easter, then go back that following Tuesday after Easter.  Great.  More homework or stupid teachers who don't know what the heck they are doing!

Well, Jesus is screaming again, so I have to see what's up.  I will write in here again, probably in a few days to a week.  Until then, this is Ice Esquivar signing off!  Take care and God bless!

~Love, your friend in New Jersey, Ice J. Esquivar.  :)

Good write and I have always wondered about how Latins favored their children by calling them Jesus, if someone were to call their child that when we were kids in my neighbourhood it would have been considered sacriligiois almost.

When it's March break and everyone is cramped inside the house there's always going be something pleasant and something less pleasant, but I'm just glad the Fawnie is doing better in the hospital.

Good write, Karen!!!

A chaotic family always is a signal of life, (sometimes it can be a heavy load on the nerves) although Mom will sigh of relief when all the brats are in bed sleeping and she can put her feet up and enjoy doing nothing.

Sounds like there is love and chaos in this family, which makes your story ring with any of us who is a parent with children or a sister with brothers and sisters. Well done, Karen, you write of real life realistically, even though your words are fiction!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
