The Wright family will be adding a new member within the next few months. Wayne continues to enjoy (relatively) good health, much to the delight of his family.

Weds., April 22, 2009 (Earth Day)~

Nashville, Tennessee~

Dear Journal~

Wayne Wright here.  Sorry for not writing sooner; been busy.  Working a few days a week; still have to take it easy, not overdo.  It's great to be back among "my kind" at the hospital; I have surely missed it while I had been so sick!

If you don't hear from me, it's either because I'm working, or I'm battling yet another illness/surgery/hospitalization, or I'm with the family.  Hope you understand.

Speaking of family, we are in the process of adopting a little girl from Liberia, Africa, a little girl named Promise Hope.  She is six years old and has cerebral palsy.  She is beautiful!

We should be hearing something from our caseworker in the next week or so; hopefully we will be approved to get our new daughter; then all we will have to wait until her adoption paperwork/medical exams/tests are complete.  She will be our third daughter; soon our family will be up to seven members:  five children and two parents.

We will soon have three daughters (Emily, Brooklyn, and Promise) and two sons (Mwugu and Rheese).

It's been nothing short of miraculous.  God has brought this angel into our laps, and we knew that once we saw her picture, we just had to adopt her, so that is exactly what we are doing.

The kids are excited at having a brand new sister.  They don't care if she's handicapped:  heck, their old man (me) is handicapped; it doesn't bother them one bit.  They are ready to love her and endocrinate her into their games of fun and mischief!  LOL

Promise is our second African child.  We already have Mwugu, who came to us from Kenya; he has grown so much; he's very tall for his age!  He may only be eight, but he looks more like eleven:  he's HUGE!!  (Heightwise, not weightwise:  he's skinny as a rail!)  And he's super smart!  We are so proud of him!

Then we have our two girls from China.  They are nine and ten now, no longer the sweet little girls we got several years back.  They are both into sports (Brookie loves tennis; as for her sister, she's into track and girl's fast-pitch softball), and both have proven to be graceful, agile dancers.

Then there's little Rheesie, who is a year and a half, into everything.  A typical little toddler; loving and cute one minute, belligerent and screaming the next, a child who can try the patience of Job (or a saint).  He's definitely all boy!

Poor Mama Sarah, she has her work cut out for her with our youngest child!  I don't envy her one bit; this is when I'm glad I'm working now; that way I can get away!  LOLOLOLOL

I am doing pretty good, all things considering.  With spina bifida, things can happen so quick; you never know when I will fall ill or need yet another surgery.  This is why I take my good days (days where I'm not at the doc's, in the hospital, or ill) so seriously; I feel blessed by God to have been a second chance at life since my kidney transplant of nearly one and a half years back.

I no longer have to have dialysis, and I only take medication so that my body doesn't reject my transplanted kidney.  I also have to take meds for various other ills, but compared to where I was, I am sitting pretty; I am doing so much better!

Well, the phone is ringing.  Hopefully it's Lily, my caseworker, to give us the news about Promise coming to our family.  Please keep us in your prayers; pray that Promise becomes a member of our family!  We dearly want this little girl; we haven't met her yet, but already we have fallen head over heels in love with her!

Thanks in advance!

~Sincerely, Wayne.

Take care and God bless you as much as He's blessed us as of late!

"...who is a year and a half, into everything..." the delightful life of a toddler researching the world around, all is new, all is an adventure.
You write about disabled children, but also now and then you surprise us with those gold nuggets, like the one quoted above, to make our heart happy because a children is happy.
Thanks.
