A young boy with an unusual name shares his story.

Howdy, y'all, from hotTexas!

My name is Crutcher Dillon Daniel O'Neil, and I am eight years old.  I live in New Boston, Texas, with my mamma, daddy, and two younger sisters, Ezrah Desiree', six, and Kaylie Leann, three.  We also have six Pomeranians, three black, one cinnamon-red, and one white with cinnamon-red.

My daddy and mamma raise dogs for a living; that is how they make their money.  They go to dog shows a lot of the time, which means that we kids have to stay with MeMaw Clara, who lives nearby.

I don't mind it, really, but I miss mamma and daddy when they are gone.  The house is too quiet, and I find it hard to sleep at night.

I do like it, though, when we go to MeMaw's house.  She lets us watch our favorite programs on television if we behave, and she lets us play on her computer (me, only).  She also feeds us ice cream with Oreos.  Yummmm!  I love ice cream with Oreos; that's the best!!

I will be in the third grade in September.  To tell you the honest truth, I am not looking forward to school; I'd much rather spend my days playing or sleeping in!  LOL  Guess that's why summer is my favorite time of year; I don't have to worry so much about homework or teachers with mad faces!  LOL

I like to do many things.  I love to go skateboarding or roller blading, play on the computer (only at MeMaw's; mamma and daddy don't have a computer at our house), read (my favorite books are the "Wild Willie" mysteries by Barbara M. Joose; they're hilarious!!), swim, go to Six Flags over Texas in Arlington, play baseball and football, and root for the Texas Rangers and Arlington Cowboys (used to be Dallas for years, but they moved to Arlington).

Kids sometimes tease me about my name 'cause it's so weird.  This is when I wish I had a normal, everyday name like Willie, Kyle, or Jason.  Crutcher's too strange.  I have never known another kid, or heard of another person, with my name.  At times I feel weird, like I'm from outer space or something.

I was named after a great grandpa on my mamma's side.  His last name was Crutcher; mamma liked it, so she decided to name me after him.  The Dillon comes from my daddy (that's his first name), and the Daniel comes from my uncle Danny (he's mamma's brother).  So that's how I came to be named Crutcher Dillon Daniel O'Neil.

I am a right handsome feller, with red hair (comes from the Irish side of me), blue eyes, and freckles everywhere.  I am fairly short for my age, but not too much; I get that from mamma; she's short.  I'm also very skinny:  I may be eight, but I'm just as tall as Ezrah, my six-year-old sister; we could be twins, we look that much alike.

I don't know about Kaylie, though:  she's still practically a baby.  She is three, but she is still in diapers.  She also sucks her thumb and still drinks from a sippy cup.  Mamma says it's 'cause she's slow; she has to have help, so she goes to something called therapy, to help her mind and body grow like it should.

She may be short like Ezrah and myself, or she could end up being tall like daddy.  It's too soon to tell.

Well, I hope you enjoyed reading about me.  That's another thing I enjoy:  writing stories.  I am very good at writing; my teachers said that to me last year, and it made me feel really good about myself.  I will write more about myself another day; right now, though, I have to go back to sleep.  It's way too early for little boys to be up.  I will write in here soon; until then, this is Crutcher Dillon saying bye!

~Crutcher Dillon Daniel O'Neil, aged eight years.
