Dated: Tuesday, September 10, 2002 (the day before the 1-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America)
This is M'buti again. I am in New York City as I write this; I am at the hotel, numb with grief. We (meaning my husband, Roberto, my deceased friend's parents, and myself) just got back from "Ground Zero" (the site of where the Twin Towers once stood), and you can ~NOT~ imagine the devastation that encurred (although they have been steadily working to clean up the site ever since it happened; millions of tons of debris have been removed from the site). Now, instead of Twin Towers there is...absolutely ~NOTHING~--just dirt is about all that remains.
I got to the site, and I promptly passed out (mostly from shock, but also from my blood pressure bottoming out); but once I was revived, we stood at the site, and we held each other, and we just...cried. We cried as though our hearts would break.
Tomorrow is the special rememberance services for those lost in the terrorist attacks, and I will be writing more; I can't write any more because my stomach is upset again (have to use the potty), and my eyes have gotten wet again. It seems like all I have done today is ~CRY~!!!
>tears < powerful, moving write...we've all cried and cried..."always remember and never forget." i know i won't...(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, karla. :(
