M'Kaya Jefferson updates us on her life.

Image of sunset (C) 2010, by Karla Dorman.

New York City, New York, August 2010~

M'Kaya Jefferson here.  A very pregnant M'Kaya, I might add.

That's right.  Gonna have another child, this time a girl.  She will be due in December.  So I have nearly four months to go.

Stefan, our son, is now eight, and he will soon be in the second grade.  Seems hard to believe, but he will be a teenager in only five short years, and he's gotten so tall!  Where did all the time go?? It seems like only yesterday he was just a baby; now he will be nine years old come September 11 of this year!

This time of the year is always a hard time for me.  I was injured in the attacks; every day I am reminded of it when I look at my ugly stump.  I lost my leg as a result of being injured from flying debris when the towers collapsed; I still have ongoing nightmares, but I am learning to deal with them and get on with my life.  It isn't easy, but I AM trusting God; it is only by His grace that I am doing pretty well, all things considering.

I also have a loving husband, a beautiful pre-teen son, and a baby girl soon to join the ranks.  I have many friends, and I have enough to get by, even with not working, due to my ongoing health problems.  I get SSDI every month, and with Frank's income, we are comfortably well off.  Frank makes excellent money as a physical therapist.

It is going to be so cool to have a little baby daughter!  We have her room all ready, and it is done in a princess theme.  It is fun  buying tiny little dresses, socks, and shoes, and hair supplies; our baby daughter is going to be the best-dressed infant in all of New York City!!  I just wish her MeeMaw (my mama) could have lived to see this moment, to be able to meet her first grandchild!

My friends still keep in contact with me, especially those in Tennessee.  Louie Sandusky and her family, for one.  I haer from them on occasion; they seem to be doing well.  Their kids are getting so big; her youngest (twin boys) are going to be three years old come November; they are no longer so little.  They are going to be very tall, just like their daddy.  And Johnny is going to be attending college, and Ronee', she is working at Olive Garden, where she is a hostess.  She just started her job last week.  And other kids have fled the nest and are starting families of their own, so Louisiana and Bill are going to have lots of extra grandchildren to spoil!

I just found out last week that their son, Anh, and his wife, Thu, are expecting their first child, a boy, around  Christmastime.  So this year is proving to be very fruitful for the Sanduskys!

I also found out that M'Buti Moore is almost one month pregnant with her 11th child!  They already have ten!  She will be due sometime around April or May, the way things look now.  I love M'Buti; she is such a sweet, shy, quiet-natured person who wouldn't hurt a fly!

I miss Tennessee, but then again, I don't.  I don't miss the storms, and I don't miss the quietness.  I love the noise and the hustle-bustle that is New York City.  Even though twin towers no longer grace our skyline, it is still a great place to live and work!  And my son always has something to do; he is never bored!

Well, I am going to go.  Going to call it a night.  I will write in here again, hopefully before our daughter is born!  (Her name is going to be JaLisha Aurora Dawn Jefferson.)  Until then, or until you hear from Franklin, this is M'Kaya signing off!  Take care and may God bless you as much as He's been blessing us!

~Love, your friend in NYC, M'Kaya.  :D
