I don't know what I would have done had I not accepted Jesus Christ into my heart, especially these past few years of my life ... I do know this much: I probably would have committed suicide or end up strung out on booze or drugs somewhere.
These past few years have been horrible at best. For starters, daddy died two years ago; he fell off an oil rig (was killed instantly). He was in his mid forties. Too, too young. Maman still hasn't gotten over it: she continues to grieve, and she acts like she is still in mourning.
Secondly, my youngest brother (Colton, who is six) was recently diagnosed with Becker's muscular dystrophy. Thirdly, my other brother, Jeremy (he's 12), has juvenile diabetes and is often in and out of the hospital because his diabetes is so hard to control. In addition to that, Jeremy also has ADHD and learning disabilities: he is failing all of his classes at school.
In addition, grandmaman (my daddy's mama) is often at the nursing home because her husband (our grandpere') suffered a massive stroke; she is at the home so she can spend time with Ambrose and make sure he's getting the proper care he needs.
I do have a sister, Bliss (she's 19), but she works a lot of hours at Mulate's Cajun Restaurant in Breaux Bridge (she's a server), and she also goes to school at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and is often bogged down with homework during the week. (She works at Mulate's on Saturday and Sunday.)
Bliss could be here helping out with Jeremy and Colton, to make things easier on maman, but I'm the one who takes care of the boys. I don't mind it most of the time, but darn, I wish maman would be more responsible and take care of the boys!! It's not easy taking care of two little boys who both have special needs!!
So life, as you can see, has not been that good for me. I'm just glad I accepted Jesus at church camp (when I was thirteen; I'm now sixteen). I don't even want to think about what my life would be like without Him!!
So far, Jesus has helped me through the worst of maman's bi-polar spells or when Jeremy ends up in the hospital yet again, and especially when daddy was killed. I haven't gone crazy or started running around with the wrong crowd or using drugs or drinking booze. I go to church every Sunday and Wednesday; church is a welcome refuge from the family problems I face at home.
Jesus has answered a lot of my prayers: I pray mainly for my family's needs and for strength to get me through yet another day dealing with Jeremy and Colton, and also maman. He somehow gives me a sense of peace and comfort, and when I lie my head down at night upon my pillow, it is always reason enough to offer Jesus my thanks.
I don't know what today will bring, but I do know this much: Jesus will definitely be a huge part of it!! I'm just glad I accepted Him as my Lord and Saviour three years ago at church camp!!
