A little boy doesn't want to go to school because he has to take a big test.

Image of yours truly (c) 2010, by Karla Dorman. (And no, in the pic, I was NOT faking sick! LOL I was s'eepy! LOL)

I think I will pretend that I am sick.  I don't want to go to school.  We have a big state test tomorrow, and I don't want to take it.  I'm scared that I'll get a bad grade on it, and if I do, mommy and daddy will be mad at me.

What can I say that I am sick with? A cold?  Pneumonia? (Looked that one up, so I could spell it right.)  The flu?  The measles?  Chickenpox? The mumps?

I know what to do to make the thermometer get  hot: stick it under running hot water, then immediately stick it in my mouth, so when mommy checks on me, she'll think that I have a bad fever.

I'll also make my voice all weak-sounding so she thinks I'm sick and then she'll have to let me stay home!

That way, I can stay in bed and read all my Spider-Man and Super-Man comic books, watch Nickolodeon all day, or read some of my favorite books (I like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books).  Then I don't have to worry about no stupid test!

The test that the state is doing has questions in every subject.  Reading.  Writing (English).  Math.  History.  Science.  Music.  Art.  I know I'm good at writing, reading, math, and art, but music, history, and science: not so much.  I try hard in those classes, but they're still hard for a little third-grader like me.

I don't want my mommy or daddy to be mad at me for bad grades!  I want to be able to go on vacation this summer, not go to summer school and spend all summer behind a stupid desk!!  School during the year is bad enough; I don't even want to THINK about going to school in the summertime, too!!

Well, I gotta get up and work on my plan.  Hopefully I can pull it off, but mommy and daddy are a lot smarter than I think they are.  Hm.  Gonna have do do some big-time thinking, so I can pull this off!!!!

This is delightful, Karen. It reminds me so much of my childhood since I was a sickly child. I did not have to fake it and would have preferred to have gone to school most times. I do remember liking the special attention and reading in bed etc... Well done. Merci, mon amie. Amour et paix, ton ami de la C-B, Canada,

I must admit that I used the old 'Fever Trick' myself, way back when, in school. Good Luck!
