Clark is a hypocrite in the worst way.
I mean, he says he is a Christian, but he doesn't act it. He doesn't "walk the walk or talk the talk": he goes to the bar to hear music every Saturday night or to have a drink or two, and the music he listens to certainly isn't anything to do with Jesus Christ: the music he listens to is all about cheating, drinking, or being sad.
Not to mention, his gambling. Every week, he buys the Power Ball lottery ticket, in the hopes of "hitting it big", so he can get out of this one-hick town, as he puts it. He has his own business, so he can afford to drop ten or even twenty dollars a pop to purchase a ticket, in the hopes of winning (but has, so far, come up short).
Clark curses with the best of him. Just the other day, he was working on a do-it-yourself project outside when he accidentally hit his thumb with the hammer. What he said next certainly had nothing to do with blessing God or even our nation: the words he used would have made our pastor have a heart attack. I had to cover my kid's ears, so he wouldn't hear the foul words issuing from Clark's lips.
I am a Christian myself, but I will be the first to admit that I am not perfect. The only one who WAS died on a cross for my sins. I am a human being; I make mistakes. It's because I live in a world fraught with sin and mayhem; it's part of the human experience. I did accept Christ as my saviour when I was a kid, and I try very hard to live a godly life (but often come up short). I know when I do mess up, I repent of my sin and ask Christ to forgive me.
As for Clark, he doesn't. He just keeps on going, both barrels, and at times, I am embarrassed to be his friend because of how he acts. He gives Christians like myself a bad name; if he doesn't shape up quick, he's gonna find out that he will end up in hell or at least on the wrong side of God's wrath. And when God is mad, NOBODY or NOTHING is safe!
What makes me the craziest about Clark is he acts all holy at church. He is the one who is belting out "Amazing Grace" or "Bringing In The Sheaves" in a very loud voice and putting everything he has into his worship, like nothing is wrong. People think he is a good Chrsitian. Maybe deep down he is, but Clark certainly hasn't been acting like it during the week! On Sunday, he's all holy and self righteous; on any other day, he is anothing BUT. I see his other side, and it's enough to make me spill the beans to Pastor Goodin about Clark and how he acts!
I know I shouldn't rag on Clark, but what's a friend to do? This can't go on forever!!
