I am very blessed.
Even though I lost my home to an EF-5 tornado back in May, I can count my blessings.
For starters, I am alive. That is most important. Guess God still wanted me around; not even a little bitty (big) tornado that destroyed my home was not enough to do me in.
Secondly, people have really opened their hearts and homes to us here in Joplin, Missouri, where I call home. Even though the clean-ups continue, people are slowly starting to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and start all over again, me included.
Thirdly, I have my own place!! I am no longer homeless! I have my own apartment, and even though it isn't nearly as roomy as my house was, I still have a roof over my head; it's better than having to sleep/live in a homeless shelter with people who have it far worse than even I do!
Yesterday, I had a lot of fun. I went to the Joplin Independence Day parade and then to the Independence Day celebration, which culminated with a mammoth fireworks display. The fireworks made me forget of my own troubles and made me thank God to be living in the greatest nation in the world! I was happy to be able to celebrate along with other people and be able to eat a good nutritious meal and listen to some wonderful music prior to the fireworks going off.
My beautiful family was right with me as I celebrated America's birthday. That's another thing I'm grateful for: that my family (my husband and my kids) weren't seriously injured (or even killed) in the tornado that struck us so violently. Things could have very easily been so much worse. A home can always be replaced; a human life cannot.
People still continue to reach out and give Joplin, Missouri, residents a helping hand: food, money, clothing, toys, and such continue to pour in, and tribute concerts/benefits for Joplin, Missour, continue to happen, the latest one held yesterday. I don't know what I've done to deserve all this attention, but I am so glad that people care enough to help in our time of need!
