A homeless man shares his story.

Willie's my name, and begging (or searching) is my game.  I am homeless.

Real name is William, but most people 'round here call me "Willie" or more commonly "Willie One-Arm".  Guess that latter nickname ain't hard to figure out:  have onely one arm (duh!).  Got in a tangle with a mastiff; thing tried to bite it off; he nearly succeeded, but then I got a bad infection in it and had to have it cut off by doctors to save my hide.  Been this way ever since.

It don't really bother me none; just have a little trouble putting pants on or socks or trying to hold big, bulky objects, but most anything else I can do just fine by myself.

I've been homeles for a long time.  Made some bad choices in my life, and as a result, I'm payin' for my sins.  Don't much care for it, but God, he's takin' care of me, so no worries.  The worst times are in the summer when it's so blazing  hot (like now) or when it's bone-chilling cold or when it's storming out; then I'm doing all I possibly can to find shelter so I don't get rained on (or snowed on or cooked by the sun or frozen into a human icicle).  I usually try to find somewhere to lay my head; if I can't, then I sleep wherever I can, as long as people don't chase me off.

I'd love to have a place of my own (or a job); trouble is, in order to get a job, one has to have an address.  Main Street ain't gonna cut it.  People want to know WHERE on Main Street I live; I can't tell 'em I'm homeless; they would then chase me off 'cause they think I'm up to no good when all I'm doing is trying to get me a break, so I can get off these streets!  Being homeless ain't no way to live; I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!

I do have friends here who watch out for me: Jude.  Goon.  Eric.  Nancy.  Tex-Mex.  Chico.  Manny.  Just Dora.  Hyde.  Sir Lancelot.  There are others, but these people are the ones I am closest to, or the ones I run into most often.  Sooe are in worse shape than me; some of their stories could curl your hair.  Me, I don't have to worry about that: I ain't got none.  I'm as bald as a cueball.  LOL

Well, I smell a burger with my name on it, so I'm gonna go.  Glad I have a little money to where I can get a paper to read (or do the crossword puzzle; am addicted to those things!) and some grub in my belly!  I will write in here again soon; take care and may God bless you!

It's danged if you do, danged if you don't, as far as not having an address and needing a job. No address, no job. No job, no home. Screwed UP. Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
