The abused little Pomeranian named Puppy-kins is coming out of her shell and is learning to love/trust people again.

If you were to see Puppy-kins now, you wouldn't believe your eyes.  The change in her has been miraculous.

She has just about gotten her old coat back: her coat is full and luxurious; she no longer looks so "scrappy" or scruffy.  Her eyes sparkle with life and joy.  She is ready to greet people by smiling happily at them and wagging her tail, which rests proudly upon her back.  She barks happy, excited barks instead of gretting people with growls or baring of teeth.

Just a few months back, Puppy-kins would growl/snap at people at any given chance (or would even try to bite them if they ... or she ... got close enough).  She was extremely shy and wary of people, even when they tried to be friendly towards her.  She did not trust any other person other than us here at the shelter, where she now calls home.

Before coming here, Puppy-kins had ben abused by her previous owners and burned about the face, neck, and shoulders.  She may have some scarring that is visible, but she is slowly starting to get her old personality back and it is extremely gratifying to see.  (The people who had her previously have since been arrested on animal cruelty and numerous other charges; they are now in jail, where they are awaiting sentencing.)

It is unknown at this time as to whether Puppy-kins will be able to be adopted out, but for now, she is staying with us here at the shelter, where we have made her an honorary mascot and "good-luck charm".

Thanks to the concern/generosity of people around the nation (and even from some foreign countries such as Mexico, Canada, France, England, and Finland), Puppy-kins will have plenty of food/toys and interaction from people.  Her story has touched millions and there's even whisperings of a possible book about her life.  It is amazing to see the change in her; it is enough to make me cry tears of happiness!

I will update you on Puppy-kins at a future time; somehow I feel that her story isn't over yet, not by a long shot.  Until then, I hope and pray that you will come to the aid of an animal who is in need.  Your life (and the animal's) will be a lot richer for it.  And you will probably never be the same again!

Karen, as a major lover of dogs, Puppy-Kins really touches my heart. My girlfriend, Bonnie, adopted a little mixed breed kid that now, after six months shows all of the revitalized traits of Puppy-Kins. I'd love, or hate to see where this little girl was and what happened to her before being found and adopted into our loving home... Gertie and my Kody are the very best of friends.

Poor baby. They ought to do the same thing to those that abuse animals and children!!!! Turn about is fair play. Glad Puppykins is doing better. Well done, Karen!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
