A woman wants nothing more than people to send her child who is disabled a Christmas card.

Image (c) 2010, by Karla Dorman.

I am beyond frustrated.

Seems that Kerry (husband) and myself (Doreen) have gotten many cards for Christmas, but people failed to send our daughter, Kerrianna (13) any.  To make matters worse, they didn't even acknowledge her.  They asked about our two other children, but they didn't even bother to mention Kerrianna.

I'm sorry.  Kerrianna can't help the way she is.  She didn't ask to be born with brain damage that left her unable to walk or talk; it just happened.  I am not blaming anyone; it was just one of those unfortunate things.  Yet people tend to treat her like she is invisible and it truly bothers not only myself, but Kerry as well!

I know Kerrianna was hurt when she didn't see any cards addressed to her.  I could see it in her big green eyes, plus she looked so sad.  It truly broke my heart!

People need to grow up and stop living in the Stone Age when it comes to treating people with disabilities with respect or dignity!  Kerry and I do all we possibly can to include Kerrianna in everyrthing we do and we try to give her as normal of a childhood as possible, even thoguh things are anything BUT.  If people can't accept Kerrianne or look beyond her limitations, well, we don't need them in our lives!  We have better things to do than to be bogged down by people who are so rude and insensitive!

Is that asking too much??  To make a young teenaged girl smile by sending her a Christmas card??  Somehow I don't think it is!!
