Two boys become the best of friends. This is their story.
Hey, y'all!
My name is Tegan Ross, but most of my friends, they call me "Tusk". I am 15 years old. I live with my family in Peachtree, Georgia, which is near Atlanta.
I am in the 10th grade at Peachtree Preparatory School. Basically, it's a school for gifted or talented kids. The subjects are hard, but I'm doing quite well, I'm happy to say. I like school; I always have. I have a lot of friends there.
My best friend is none other than Scotty Abrams; they call him "Skin". He has albinism, or lack of pigment in his skin, hair, and eyes. He has pale, pale skin, nearly white hair, and light ice blue eyes. He has to be careful when out in the sun or if it's hot out or he could get seriously sunburnt, or worse, sick and end up in the hospital.
I have known Skin since elementary school: we met in kindergarten, when I was the new kid. We had moved from Atlanta to get away from the crime. Well, I met Skin one day at lunch, and we hit it right off. We've been best buds ever since.
I can tell Skin all my deepest, darkest secrets and not once has he ever laughed at or belittled me. He is the quieter of our duo; guess it's because other kids have made fun of him for being an albino. I know it's not his fault, but people need to back off and see him as I see him. He's a great kid and he's always been there for me.
I just hope I can be there for him.
Skin has two sisters: Whisper and Whitney, who are twins; they are 11 and like him, they were born with albinism. His mom has it too; as for his dad, he's completely normal, with brown hair and brown eyes.
When we're not in school, Skin and I like to skateboard, play basketball, hang out in the family den where we play video or computer games, watch Duck Dynasty, Family Guy, The Simpsons, All American Dad, and the car shows on Discovery or The Learning Channel, and draw or write stories. We also like to bowl, do karate, go to concerts, and go to Six Flags over Georgia during the summer, where we have season passes.
When we grow up, I want to join the military while Skin wants to be a writer. I'd like to be a writer too, but I'd rather join the military, maybe go into the Air Force or Marines and travel the world. I think that would be awesome!
Well, I hate to go, but Mom's calling; she's gonna take Skin and myself to the mall where we can kill a few hours (and get away from Whisper and Whitney; they're being abominable today!!). I will write in here again soon; until later, this is Tusk Ross saying over and out! I'm outta here!
