A turkey who managed to escape ending up on the dinner table shares her story, but she is still worried she will be caught.

 Gobble, gobble, gobble!

This is Teresa J. Turkey.  I am surprised that I have managed to elude THEM, the Humans, who mean us turkeys bodily harm.  They not only want to hunt us: they want to (*gasp!*) eat us!!

They will not rest until we are on their table and down their throats to their stomachs!  Gad, just the thought of it is enough to tie my giblets into a knot!

I don't know what we have to make Humans want to eat us.  I've never tasted myself; don't know what turkey even TASTES like.  I hear we taste good, but I'm not cutting or cooking myself to find out!!

I have lost too many friends to count: I am sure more than one ended up on a table somewhere during Thanksgiving or Christmas, the two biggest days of the year for eating turkey (though some smart humans eat other things, such as chicken, lamb, beef, or ham).  I miss them ....

Let me bow my turkey head and wipe my eyes with my wing while I pause and remember departed friends ... alas, some of them left far too soon ....

Anyway, I loathe Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I stay in hiding until they are over; I don't come out until after the first of the year.  That way, my life isn't in as much jeopardy as it is during Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Just say some prayers on my behalf (and all the turkeys who managed to stay in hiding); pray that we don't get caught and end up in the oven and eventually down someone's gullet!  Just the thought of it is enough to make me SICK!  Thanks!
