We are stuck here at home. We can't get out or go anywhere.
We had an ice storm on Tuesday, and since then, everything is frozen solid, and school has been cancelled for the children since then. The children are getting bored, and they are starting to complain that "there is nothing to do" when they have more than enough to do as it is. It is starting to drive me crazy!
The only one who DOES get out is my wife, Louie, who HAS to..you see, she works at the hospital, where she is a nurse; so she has no choice. But she IS a very good driver, and she doesn't have to go far to her job; her job is only 10 minutes away from where we live. And besides, when she got there this morning she called, to let me know she got to work safe and sound. She always does that. (I am off work today; for one thing, the roads are still rather treacherous, and with my being disabled and being on crutches, I don't want to risk getting into an accident or risk falling down. And besides, my supervisor at Wal*Mart called to tell me not to come on in, so as a result, I got a day off from work.)
This whole mess started late Monday night; the weather forecasters were saying that Nashville (not to mention, a good part of the south, from the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma on north to Kentucky and Tennessee, all the way to the Carolinas) was in line of a major winter storm that would bring heavy snow or ice; and as a result, our area was put under winter storm warnings. They were forecasting at least several inches of ice for our area; and by Tuesday morning, we all awakened to a frosty, icy mess. The roads and sidewalks were a glaze of ice, several inches thick, and ice sparkled in the trees. It was a beautiful sight, but it was a dangerous time. There were numerous accidents reported, and all of the schools (and several businesses) decided to cancel for the day, in light of the severe weather. And of course, the airports had to cancel flights, stranding many across the nation. When my wife left for work this morning, she had some trouble trying to get down our driveway, due to the ice; but she eventually made it down to the bottom and drove to work VERY carefully..not to mention, VERY slowly. (She's a Cajun girl; she's still not used to ice or snow.)
But bad as it may seem outside, there are parts of the country who have it far worse than we do here in Nashville. Several large cities or communities are totally without any power to speak of, and people are saying it may be a few days before all the power is restored; there have been several deaths blamed on the weather; there have been too many accidents to keep track of; and homeless shelters are full of people wanting to escape the weather. And of course, schools are closed, and the kids are having an absollute ball; but even the novelty of missing school due to bad weather is starting to wear off on some of my kids. Ronee', for one. She absolutely HATES to miss school!
According to the Weather Channel, we may just get another round of winter weather here across the Southland. We may be getting more ice or possibly even heavy snow. So it looks like the weather miseries aren't over for us just yet.
Sure does remind me of winter weather in southern Kentucky when everything closed down except where hubby worked at the hospital. Time for making stews, or chili, and baking delectible deserts. It was always good having the kid shome, we did projects together, like make pot holders, or clean closets.It was so nice to be inside all warm and cozy and watch the weather from the window.
