Many people aren't comfortable whenever they are around me. I think it is because I happen to be physically handicapped.

But if you ever give me a chance and/or get to know me, you will soon find out that, despite my disablities, I am a LOT like you!

For starters, I love to sing, and I sing every Sunday in the Children's Choir at my church, Christ Community Assembly of God! (I've even sang a few solos!) I also love to write stories or poems! (I've found this GREAT site for authors and poets..AUTHORSDEN! It's WONDERFUL!! :) )

I also love to read; I am a VORACIOUS bookworm! If I am NOT writing or singing, chances are, you'll probably find my nose in a book! :) I especially love the "Little House" series by Laura Ingalls Wilder! (By the way, I LOVE the television show, too! :) )

But too many times people don't want to even bother getting to know me. See. besides my handicaps (I am in a wheelchair--I CAN'T walk AT all--, and I was born without arms OR hands; I wear prosthetic "hooks", plus I have breathing problems, and I am often on oxygen), I am a Muslim (or WAS; I am now a Christian). Ever since September 11, 2001, happened, I have been teased, and I have been spit upon or beaten up. The last time I got beat up I had two black eyes and bruises on my cheeks. They tell me to "Go back to where you came from" and call me a "terrorist"..and worse.

I don't have too many friends outside of church, and I dread going to school each and every day. I know Jesus is with me at ALL times, and that He would NEVER leave me, but I sometimes wish He could come down and handle the bullies Himself because I am just NOT physically able to defend myself! It's TERRIBLE how some nasty people treat me!! :(

But if you want to know HOW to be a friend to me, first of all, ignore my wheelchair, braced legs, my catheter bag and tube, my oxygen hose in my nose, and my short size! Don't be making comments about my handicaps! I KNOW I am handicapped; just DON'T KEEP MENTIONING it time after time after time! I get sick and tired of hearing the same old song over and over!! :(

Secondly, treat me NORMAL. Treat me as YOU would want to be treated, and TRY to put yourseslf in MY shoes for once. I bet you wouldn't like having to depend on others for your personal needs! Treat me as you would treat your best friend, and realize that, despite my disabilties, I am a PERSON first, and a person with disabilities SECOND!! :(

Thirdly, ask me if I want to join in on your games or conversations. I love to talk, and I am pretty good at turning the jumprope! I also love to play Spit and Crazy Eights, too, just like any other kid! Just because I happen to be missing my arms or am in a wheelchair DOESN'T make me STUPID! I happen to be VERY smart! Just ask Mr. Lawhorn, my teacher, at school!!

Also, don't keep asking me questions about September 11 or of my Muslim heritage! I am NO LONGER a Muslim; I am a CHRISTIAN, and thinking about Islam or being a former Muslim is a rather touchy subject for me! And NO, I had NOTHING to do with September 11; I was here in AMERICA when it happened, and I happen to be an AMERICAN!! I became "naturalized" two years ago, and I am PROUD to be an AMERICAN!! I may have been born in Iran, but now I am an AMERICAN, and an AMERICAN I shall ALWAYS be!! :) I LOVE America, and I HATE it when people talk nasty about her or her people or want to harm her!! And I CAN'T stand seeing people mistreating our Flag; it makes me ILL whenever I see people laughing or burning (or steppong) on our Flag! How would they like it if I did it to THEIR flag?? It isn't fair!! :(

In case you didn't know, when the Towers were attacked and then fell that horrible day, I CRIED like I had never done before! I just couldn't believe people could have so much in the way of hatred; what they did was inexcusible and unforgivable! How could they commit such an atrocity against another nation is clearly beyond me!! :( I've SEEN the Trade Towers, and they were STUNNINGLY beautiful; now they are gone, erased in an act of cowardice and pure-t evil, and too many innocent people died at the hand of fanatical madmen! Because of this evil, I shall never see those beautiful buildings again, and it rips my heart out each time I look at the changed skyline of New York City!

If you could just take my advise and get to know me a little better, you will find out that I am a LOT like you are, more than you may ever think, and that I have feelings, dreeams, and such too, just like YOU do! I may be handicapped and in a wheelchair or don't have arms, but I am NOT stupid!!
