Jodie's mother writes about why her daughter is so special to her, even in the face of incredible physical and mental disabilities.

You never know just how much joy you bring to your father and myself. You are a Living Miracle in every sense of the word!
You have been ours since you were only three years old, and now you are going to be 12 next month; and you have grown into a beautiful young lady! You came to us from Korea, and once we saw you, with your shiny black hair and pretty, almond-shaped eyes, we were instantly smitten!
You continue to win our hearts (and the hearts of others) to this very day.
Jodie, you have been through so much in your young life, and doctors really didn't hold much in the way of hope for you; but you have proved them wrong time and time again. You are starting to express yourself in words and in facial expressions, and you are growing more beautiful as time goes by. You are a very loving and happy little girl, and you know how to win the hearts of others with your grace and your courage.
You may not be able to walk or run, and you may not be able to do a lot of things in life for yourself, but Jodie, that isn't what is important. What IS important is that we love you every minute of every day, and we DON'T see the negative aspects of your disabilities. We see a beautiful little girl who just happens to be in a wheelchair, and we also see a child of great strength and hope in the face of incredible adversity. You know how to love, and you know how to care; and you know how to bring out the best in people. You also know how to teach others to do the same, and you have made grown people cry because of your will to survive and your stubborn nature to triumph.
Who knows what next year may bring for you. You may be walking your first steps, or you may be able to swallow and take your first food by mouth since having the stomach tube put into your belly when you were seven years old. Wouldn't that be wonderful if you could taste your food again! Just imagine how good ice cream or cake would be?? YUM!!! (I can just see you now, with chocolate cake smeared all over your little face at your next birthday party! A photo opportunity if there ever was one!) You may not always be dependent on others; you may never know...God can do marvelous things when you least expect Him to!
