A little girl writes of the time she met a unique celebrity when he appeared at a local bookstore.

He may not be "all that", but he sure is popular with a lot of people, especially children!
The "he" I am referring to is Mr. Winkle. (MR. WINKLE? I can hear you saying right now as you read this. WHAT KIND OF NAME IS MR. WINKLE??) No, Mr. Winkle is NOT a politician, nor is he a famous actor or even a singing star. Mr. Winkle happens to be a dog.
A cute and cuddly little dog who looks a lot like a tiny teddy bear. That is who Mr. Winkle is. He has a few books out (his owner wrote them, but he "helped" by posing for pictures and stuff), and he also has calendars and other stuff out. He also has his own web site on the Internet, and just about everyone knows who he is (but a lot of people don't know WHAT he is). Yes, he IS a dog, but he doesn't look like a dog. He has round teddy bear ears and is very tiny in size; and his fur is gold and soft to the touch. He also has a huge tongue that seems much too big for his mouth, and he can't shut his mouth well because of this huge tongue. He also has trouble trying to eat with this huge tongue, and if he gives kisses, they are very messy! His owner adopted him from the pound, and pretty soon, he became quite popular.
As I said, I met Mr. Winkle when he came to one of our local malls when his owner was having a book signing, and he was so cute! I saw him, and I just fell in love with him! He looked like a happy little teddy bear, and his eyes were big and round; and he was just aDORable! I went up to him, and he let me pet him, and he licked my face with his long tongue, and I just laughed! He then "pawtographed" the book I had just gotten, and his owner put my name above his paw print when she asked me my name. She was really nice, and she was glad I liked him.
His owner was telling me that he visits a lot of kids in hospitals or kids who are disabled, and I told her that was very nice. He seems to bring joy wherever he goes, and the kids are always so happy and excited to see him! It is so funny how an animal can have such a huge inpact on people.
I am glad I got to meet Mr. Winkle because other than my cat "Cajun" he is just about the CUTEST little thing I have EVER seen! :)
