It's me, Hattie Dianne Wilson. If that name doesn't ring a bell, then I shall have to do a brief intro. Maybe then you will remember me.
I am 15 years old, and I live in Nashville, Tennessee, with my momma and poppa, and my two little sisters, Morgana (8) and Trinity (4). I am going to be in the tenth grade when school starts back up.
I also am handicapped, and you know this once you first set eyes upon me. I am on crutches because I have arthritis, which I have had since I was 6 years old (9 years now). I also use a wheelchair if my joints are especially painful or if I am having an awful time on my crutches, as far as my walking is concerned. My hands are crooked, and I walk with a very bad limp; and each step is pure agony for me.
I have been going to arthritis camp (Camp SteppingStone) since I was only 8, two years after I was diagnosed with JRA (that's juvenile rheumatoid arthritis), and at camp, I have made many wonderful friends. I am on the way to camp now; the bus just picked me up, and it is so good to see all my friends again; but I can also see there are quite a bit of new faces. Guess I have my work cut out for me, don't I? LOL
I have been doing fairly well, have managed to stay out of the hospital since my last flare earlier this year. I still have my bad days when it comes to the pain, but I do manage quite well. I take my pills, and I do my r.o.m. (range of motion) exercises and still have therapy every week (two days) at the hospital; plus I go see my doctor, Dr. Hanson, every month. She helps me deal with my disease, and she is very nice and understanding. I am so lucky to have her as my doctor!
I really haven't done much this summer except go to therapy; it is hard for me to get around, and momma and poppa are so worried that something bad will happen to me if they are not in sight of me. I don't know what they expect will happen, but I wish they would stop treating me like a baby! I am a teenager now, and I don't like being overprotected! It is nothing but a big pain in the ass, and besides, they don't treat my two little sisters like that! It is SOOOO annoying!!
