Receiving a special hat from a colleague ... the hat belonged to the father of my Social Work (LCSW) friend ... whom I had helped when he was my hospice patient ... now I get to honor him ... covering up my bald spots ... may he rest in peace ... permission given by my LCSW friend to publish this ....
I was really touched in the past while attending a Continuing Education Unit function at the Baton Rouge Rehab when Joel d'Aquin Thibodeaux, an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) Colleague gave me a cool debonair "Dobbs" Fifth Avenue New York Fedora, since she knows I like to wear toppers!
And to really "top it off," the hat had belonged to her late dad, whom I had helped when he was one of my hospice patients from many years ago.
So now I get to wear it in his honor ... thanks to all that he had taught me - and continues to teach me - about life and death, hospice and breath ...
Many people whom see me wearing this hat tell me that they love the style, and it gives me an opportunity to share the story.
So let me send an eternal "Father's Day Blessings" prayer to Joel's Daddy as we come to recognize Dads tomorrow.
Re: the first pic of the montage - I had the hat on while getting some beer from Nash's Liquor Store down the street, so here's a toast to Joel's Dad and all Dads ... especially to God THE FATHER!
Are you sure that was root beer? That was a wonderful coincidence. I'm sure the father is smiling down at you wearing his hat.
When I returned to college I discovered that I could no longer wear my rabbit fur lined gloves because my fingers were contracted. I mentioned it to the Dean of Students one day when I was in his office. His response was to give me his grandfather's fur-lined leather mittens that enabled me to push my hands in them and still be able to grip things through the soft leather. I continued to wear those mittens whenever it was below freezing whenever I was in the north.
