She has dark eyes, dark hair, a perfect body, a sparkling personality, and sings like an angel. Her name in Sonika Vaid. She is a finalist on American Idol, but she was my choice to win that title from the moment I first saw her. Whether America votes for her or not, my heart has cast its vote. Sonika is the one for me.
Hold on, I’m not just another dirty old man. I am all three of those words, but not when they are combined. Not me. I am a hopeless romantic, and I plead guilty. I know what I like. For that I am also guilty. This 20 year old beauty from Massachusetts has cast her spell over me, and I am down for the count. And what a way to go!
For me the selection criteria are simple. First, the contestant must look the part. Sonika walks away with that part of the competition hands down. Second, she must be able to look into the camera and into my soul in a way that stirs up molecules. Check that. She must be able to bring tears to my eyes (and make me wish I were closer to her age). Check. She must have sparkling eyes that mesmerize. Check. She must convince me that there is a mystical island somewhere, and she is pleading for me to join her there. Check. My wife is OK with my fantasy. Check. (That’s a guess), She can sing. Check.
Sonika soars! She wants to go into medical school and become a force for good in the lives of people. I’d say she has already won.

The main check point, however, is your ability to not lose your imagination. I learned a long time ago, a good partner at home is one who not only tolerates admiration for the dreams of her or his fantasy, but encourages it. That's a partner who is, as they say, a grown up. BTW, there's noting like a great look and voice to get the old synaptic rhythms going, eh?
