When I wrote this probably in the late 80's, I didn't realize that it sounded like, "Moby Dick". I wasn't even thinking about that when I wrote it. Oh well.
It all started in the year of 1830 in a small seaport town known as Pauls Reef. It was a special occasion for the sailors convention. Whaleing ships from all around the Isles sailed in one by one for this grand event. For the sailors it was only another year to celebrate their dareing kills at sea, yet for the creature that inhabits below the blackest depths of the sea emerges some different feelings of great force and fury, otherwise known as vengence. For the tides have turned, and the fury now silently hides beneath the merky sea water awaiting its long sought for prey known as the whaler. The celebration continued on through the night with everyone in their usual fish bragging mood. Some of the sailors were challenging one another to a gallant sea race in the stormy night winds. Many farewells were given for the captain and his crew aboard the Orion Clipper. Another ship known as the Salty Dog was to challenge the Orion Clipper. It was a bad night to be raceing out at sea, because of the stormy winds, and the huge black rolling waves. Though it didn't matter for they were men of challenge, and the weather didn't seem to bother them too much. Soon the bows of the two clippers were cutting their way through the darkened night waves of the gallant sea. Onward bound across the cold north atlantic, and unaware of what lye in wait for them beneath the darkness of the waves, and the chill of the night winds. Before the two captains set forth on their race, they were warned of the dangerous sea ahead of them, and the chance of running aground, and of smashing into under water reefs, but they were not warned of the silent danger in which lye ahead, and below in wait for them. For this time their luck was about to run out, for this time the sailors were going to push their luck just a bit to far. So far they were fortunate not to run into anything during the race as of yet, but something very strange beneath was leering about, perhaps it was something in search of prey. According to an eye witness later, something very enormous trailed the square riggers just below the surface of the sea, and did seem to be closeing in on the two ships at a moderate rate of sea. The two clippers were soon out of sight with almost full sails, and they were never heard from or seen again. It probably makes you wonder now if they were still raceing one another, or simply running for their very own lives. Time has passed now, and the creature that went after those two ships have long since vanished, along with the Orion Clipper and the Salty Dog, yet the same type of creature still exist today. So watch out ye whalers of today, that seek out to only destroy, for its fury may return to you some day, in search of Vengence!

I think you have a great start for a Mystery/thriller. You have a few typo's which can be fixed easily. If you do an expansion on this thought, I would like to see it, if you post it here let me know :-)
