Play written in a book performed
The stage a typewriter, flashing neon, clothes line with a sheet draped, shadow of a woman with child in arms on a mattress.

Soft singing
Love and freedom come and they go
Grandmas in the pen
Daddy is long gone
We are just here
Living on living on

Soft whimper escapes
As the flashing of neon
Bursts into a kaleidoscope
Images of figures dance
Around the two

Pretty are we images of love
Cast aside by all we know
Just examples of perfection
Born to be tested on a stage
Truth and wisdom living

Heartache is future put out
We are safe at home
Last of a breed
Trusted and tested
The seed of example
We move on move on

A small man steps from the darkness
Addresses no one in particular

So answer the phone when death calls
For in the middle of living
Giving hope only takes
A marker on
Love cast aside
No person or ghost can
Claim a new soul
Waiting for future

Yesterdays looser is a winner today

Black to white
Sing your song
And like the fate
Take and give
See so much more
On a road open

Soft singing
Love and freedom come and they go
Grandmas in the pen
Daddy is long gone
We are just here
Living on living on
..

Epiphany by Gary Stephens

“We’re going to use nine megaton warheads in space and we’re not sure they’re large enough to be effective. Why would you even consider using kiloton-range surface-to-air warheads as back-up?” The answer was succinct. “Because they’re all we have.”
