These facts and studies hopefully answer the question of religion's positive or negative influence on crime, both in and outside prisons.

The vast majority (75%) of studies reviewed revealed that religious measures consistently had a beneficial, effect on delinquency, whereby higher levels of religiosity were associated with inhibiting or reducing delinquency.

Yes, just about any foundation has biased or slanted stats both ways. However, I interviewed one of the biggest drug dealers in Miami who was supposed to be in prison for life! After becoming a Christian, he quit crossing off each day on the calendar because he was too busy reading the Word of God to all the other men. He became a pastor of a large flock of men, and from that day forward, he said he was free in spirit and no longer felt confined to the prison. He was released for good behavior and placed on probation. Today, he is re-married and is a social worker in Ft. Lauderdale, helping others to get off drugs. He could not be happier, and his success story is just one out of hundreds who have made a complete change in their lives for the better. The Heritage Foundation is a strictly political organization disguised as an authoritative one. A poor choice for authenticating theories. I tend to agree. Most criminals, often starting from extreme poverty that forces them to steal all or form gangs for mere protection when they are very young. It is these gang relationships and accompanying addictions like alcohol and drugs, the thrill of power over others and so forth, that can be replaced by religious discipline. In other words, replacing one addiction with another one. Religion is by far a better addiction than criminal behavior of any kind. But religion saps the individual from freedom of choice and progress in life. Ask any criminal who decided to go straight without using any religion. They're out there. Ron
