Dwelling in the dark place I call negativity is a no no.
We are called to a positive frame of mind, I believe.
And yet in the best of times, we all succumb to that dark pit of negativity.
How do we get back up? We make ourselves climb. No one may be around to give us the push, so it is always up to us to do it.
"Get moving!"
"Stop feeling sad!"
These are good things to say to ourselves when the negs drag us down.
Reach up, come on, reach up!
I was thinking that one. Sometimes thinking positive can be the force that elevates the blues to sound the trumpet of halleluiahs needed to see things in a more positive way.
Du du du dah!!!!!!!
Are you seeing things in a brighter light, now?
I hope so, because I am. I was in the doldrums and wrote this so I could move out of that negative place....just because, I believe negativity is a no no.

Lynn,
I love this poem. There are so many people that die from a negative life. If everyone had your outlook we may not need so many doctors my friend. Cindy

I totally agree. Negativity is one of my pet peeves. People that are negative drag everyone down around them and yet if they only realized that they may see that it is all about them!!!!!!!
Lynn this is so true. Back some twenty years ago I allowed myself to get so depressed it almost scared me. That taught me a lesson. No use in going there because there's nothing but the bottom to hit. I've been on a positive note every since, the way I see it, you might as well not make life any worse by being negative. cheers G
In my article, "The Way It Is" talks about being honest with yourself. If you are depressed, it's good to say you are. It's good to know you are. Without accepting the fact that you are, you are denying yourself the proper healing to be set free. We have been taught in the church not to say what is really happening. They call it speaking negative things and speaking things into existence. It can be taken to the extreme, causing a person to walk in a state of denial. If I say my leg is broken, I am not saying it is going to be broken. It is already broken. If I go to the emergency room and say I have pain in my foot when the truth is there's a pain running through my head, I will not get the proper help I need. And in return, I will carry the same pain back home. It is time we tell where the real problem lies. That is not being negative. Please underdstand I am not knocking your article. Please don't let what I or others say keep you from pressing on to minister to the hearts of others. You are an inspiration.
I would have to agree with others that to be truly human means to go through the pain of negativity, acknowledging it and accepting it as part of life. We grow from the pain of our own negative thoughts. This is not to say that I would recommend dwelling in them, that is not the point and will not bring about growth but accepting and understanding negativity will help us feel compassion more fully and completely. Ignoring our own negativity is damaging to our well being. It causes a state of severe repression which will result in neourtic behavior and ultimately depression. Negativity is not bad. Sometimes the more one fights negativity the stronger a hold it will have over their lives. It is a complex balance.
I encourage anyone to find the source of their negative feelings and go from there. Dig deep, pull it out but don't ever ignore it or push it aside.
It's like having a bad tooth. The more you try to ignore it the worse the pain will get until eventually it becomes infected. The poisen spreads through you and can, in the end, kill you. Don't let that happen. Feel sad if you want to, be mad, be real and help yourself to heal the sore spots.
Denial of negativity is cruel and insensitive to the sufferer. Empathy and understanding is a better and healthier treatment for allowing the sufferer to move through and beyond the situation. Denial of harsh life situations is what drunks do.
I cannot agree with "negativity is a no no". In fact, many suffer severely when denied their basic hardship feelings due to lack of courage on the hearer's part. Healing and being set free come from going through the darkness, not around it.
60 years of life and 30 years of counseling have reminded me that you can't kick a bad habit until you get more intimate with it--understanding why it is happening and what the payoffs are for continuing it.
I believe we have to suffer through unpleasant parts of life now and then to learn, grow and improve, and an unwilling attitude is what compounds the mental/emotional suffering and makes it continue in a hopeless vicious circle.
Taking ownership for certain choices that we make to get these darker results, is the key to clibing out of the hole. Pure determination, without right purpose, may result in digging a deeper hole.
What do you think? I would like to see you develop your ideas more fully--you may have more to say than you are saying! Good start though!
