I eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I snack on them between meals.
Books.
It started when I was a little worm, when Teacher introduced me to words.
Oh. Em. GEE.
They were simple at first. Single letters grew into whole chains of phrases strung together. Stories I could sink my teeth into.
As I matured, they grew from being on pieces of paper into bound volumes.
They got bigger. Thicker. Tastier. And I was hooked.
Mom said that books was the cause of my eyes going bad. So, I got glasses. No problem.
Mom thought I was losing my hearing. I'd never hear her when she wanted something done.
It's not that I was ignoring her, it's just that I didn't want the story to end.
*WHAP* Upside the head. 'Didn't you hear me calling you?'
Ummmm ... NO?
Little bookworms grow up to be big bookworms.
It doesn't matter what the story is about. Shoot, I'll read the back of a cereal box, as long as it satisfies The Craving.
I've got my nose stuck in a book all of the time. I wake up: first thing I do after putting on my glasses and getting dressed is pick up the books I went to sleep reading last night.
Yes. You heard that right: books. More than one.
It used to drive Mom crazy. 'How can you read more than one book?' she'd ask.
Easy. I read one until I got bored, would pick up another and get lost. When I got tired of that book, I'd pick up another.
And I have never lost my place.
Mom thought I was losing my hearing. It's not that I was ignoring her, it was just that I didn't want the story to end.
During the day, I'm reading. And if not reading, writing my own poems and stories.
My idea of heaven: going to the library or bookstore. I can get lost for hours there. Especially when they have a sale.
When you walk into my home, the first thing you see are books. One bookshelf is not enough.
I carry at least three books with me at all times. Like a good scout, I'm always prepared.
